I’m honestly not sure what to make of the upcoming Borderlands live-action movie adaptation. There seems to be a lot of departures from the original series, including Krom being recast as a Dutch bodybuilder and not just some dude sitting on a turret. And then there’s Roland, whose commanding presence in-game doesn’t seem to make sense when compared to Kevin Hart’s previous film appearances.

Now, Gearbox Randy Pitchford is telling us that Janina Gavankar will play Commander Knoxx, the daughter of General Knoxx and the leader of the Crimson Lance.

If you’ll recall. General Knoxx was the big villain added in arguably the best DLC to hit Borderlands 1, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. There’s no mention of General Knoxx having a daughter in the DLC, but sure, whatever, now he has a beautiful daughter who just so happens to have his old job.

This seems to imply that the Borderlands movie will take place sometime after the events of The Secret Armory of General Knoxx and likely before the rise of Hyperion in Borderlands 2. On the other hand, Randy Pitchford has already stated that the “Borderlands Cinematic Universe” won’t be the same as the video game universe, so there’s really no point in speculating on how the movie will fit in with the games’ plots.

Gavankar seems like a fine choice to add to the growing menagerie of Borderlands characters. She’s been in a lot of TV stuff like The Morning Show, Space Force, and The Mighty Ones, as well as a lot of video games like Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Far Cry 4.

She’ll likely serve as the sub-villain just behind Atlas CEO Deukalian Atlas (to be played by Edgar Ramirez), but we’ll have to wait for more spoilers to find out for sure.

The Director’s Cut DLC is now available in Borderlands 3, which adds a new murder mystery storyline and a Varkid raid boss. Season Pass 2 owners should already have it ready for download, but the rest of us will have to buy it separately.
