JK Rowling has faced harsh criticism in regards to her views on the transgender community and gender identity. Rowling used to be one of the most beloved living authors, with her Harry Potter series introducing millions of children around the world to the joys of reading, but her comments have turned her into a subject of controversy. Many of the Harry Potter movie actors have publicly disagreed with Rowling’s views, as have several of her fellow authors.
It’s not surprising to learn that Rowling hasn’t had much involvement with Hogwarts Legacy, especially as it’s set in the 1800s and takes place long before the events of the Harry Potter books.

A: J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World.

It’s up to each individual to decide whether Rowling’s comments will influence their desire to purchase Hogwarts Legacy. On the one hand, her comments are extremely harmful and she will receive a cut of all of the profits made by the game, so some people would see purchasing Hogwarts Legacy as supporting someone whose views they vehemently disagree with. On the other hand, Hogwarts Legacy was developed by numerous individuals who have nothing to do with Rowling and her comments, and they will take some of the brunt for its failure. We’re not here to tell you how to think or feel, or whether you should vote with your wallet. If Hogwarts has been ruined for you forever, then we can’t fault you for never wanting to engage with the Harry Potter franchise again, even if that means never experiencing Hogwarts Legacy, which could be an excellent game.
Hogwarts Legacy will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X in 2021.
