Microsoft has announced the selection of free games that will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers for July 2020 and they aren’t so bad. Saints Row 2 is the clear winner here, but WRC 8 isn’t a bad get for Xbox One owners. The other two games are…not so great?
I can’t even answer that question since I’ve never heard of Dunk Lords or Juju. Those seem like completely random picks to flesh out the selection to four games. Microsoft has handed out quite a few gems over the years through Games with Gold, so we’re bound to get duds every now and then. Heck, these two titles might actually be hidden treasures.
What makes this selection odd is that WRC 6 was previously free on Live Gold last year. If I’m not mistaken, other Saints Row games have also been free. We’re almost to a similar situation that Sony is at with PlayStation Plus. Microsoft hasn’t announced what will be going on with the Series X this fall.
You can’t knock freebies, but it might be wiser to drop the subscription price for online play and start getting people signing up to Game Pass. That has a much wider selection of titles and caters to more than these freebies ever could.
