Microsoft has unveiled the lineup of titles for “Games with Gold” next month and it’s a pretty killer list. The obvious headliner is the original Destroy All Humans, which is obviously being included to capitalize on the remake’s upcoming release. Backward compatible with Xbox One, it should be a real treat to revisit this early open-world killathon.
Along with that, Shantae & The Pirate’s Curse is available for Xbox One gamers to grab. With 1/2 Genie Hero being offered earlier in the year, it seems someone over at Microsoft is a big fan of WayForward’s belly dancing platformer series. This particular entry is supposedly the best of the bunch, so that’s also a huge get for subscribers.
If those two big games weren’t enough, even the other titles are well worth checking out. The criminally overlooked and underrated Sine Mora is being offered for Xbox 360. While you can actually grab the slightly better Sine Mora EX on Xbox One (and PS4, PC, Switch), getting a version of it for free is a steal. Combined with Coffee Talk and this could possibly be the best month for Games with Gold in years.
Here is when you’ll be able to grab each title:
Xbox One
- Shante & The Pirate’s Curse: June 1 - 30 Coffee Talk: June 16 - July 15
Xbox 360
- Destroy All Humans: June 1 - June 15 Sine Mora: June 16 - June 30
Xbox Game Pass might have made Games with Gold a bit redundant, but it is nice to see Microsoft offering great games for a change. There’s only so much the company can do if publishers aren’t willing to hand out newer titles, but this current crop of classics is high quality. Most people probably don’t have a digital copy of Destroy All Humans and more, still, should try Sine Mora.
What I’m starting to wonder about is what Microsoft will do when the Series X launches. Every past Xbox One game will be backward compatible, but will we begin to see former heavy hitters join the service? It would be wild to see something like Halo: The Master Chief Collection handed out for free ahead of the launch of Halo Infinite.
