Just last week, a YouTuber by the name of Doctre81 sparked speculation that a Switch port of Suda51’s Killer7 was in the works. By scouring the LinkedIn profile of one of the developers from Engine Software (which had ported Killer7 to PC in 2018), Doctre81 noticed a listing for the game with “PC/Switch” in its description. There was even a line that stated, “Currently Producer on an unannounced title in collaboration with a prolific Japanese game developer.”

Well, as the old saying goes, don’t believe everything you read on the internet. Looking to get to the bottom of this, outlet Nintendo Life spoke to Engine Software’s Ruud van de Moosdijk (owner and VP of development) to get the truth behind this listing. As it turns out, it was a mistake. “Without saying anything about unannounced projects, the unannounced project I am working on with a prolific Japanese developer is not Killer7 for Switch sorry.”

Some people weren’t willing to accept that answer, so Nintendo Life spoke to van de Moosdijk a second time for clarification. “It was never in development,” he stressed. “When we started working with Suda-San on the PC version, it was an on-going discussion during development, but as I said - in the end, the decision was made not to work on a Switch version.”

The reason for the LinkedIn page displaying PC/Switch: Engine Software had internally discussed the project as coming to both platforms. The hope was that everything would go smoothly and work could begin on the Switch port shortly after launching the PC one. Plans fell through for one reason or another and that was dropped.

This doesn’t 100% rule out Killer7 coming to Switch in the future, but it’s most certainly not happening anytime soon. “Never say never, but if it is in the works, it is not in the works with Engine,” van de Moosdijk said.

That may not be what everyone wants to hear, but at least we have the full story behind that LinkedIn profile. Let this be a lesson in why you should never take a placeholder listing as fact. Without the full story, your mind will go wild and assume something that isn’t true.
