While it has become more the norm than the exception for each Kingdom Hearts game to branch out and experiment with the established formula, Melody of Memory has taken things to the extreme by becoming a full on rhythm game. However, just like every other spin-off, this game’s story will play an integral part in the larger narrative, leaving many curious about how all the characters will fit in. We already know Sora, Donald, and Goofy will be the stars of the show, but how many playable characters are in the game in total? Here’s a breakdown of everyone joining the cast for this musical trip down memory lane.

Every Playable Character In Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

As a three lane styled rhythm game, you’ll technically be controlling three characters at once, such as Sora, Donald, and Goofy, as they run down the tracks. Thanks to the demo released earlier, we already know of the “Classic” party, but there are actually three others with completely different casts you can unlock, plus Disney characters showing up in their respective worlds. In total, there are 20 playable characters.

“Days”, “BBS” and “DDD” Parties

Aside from the “Classic” party, many other iconic trios from the series appear as their own playable teams you can unlock in the game. The “Days” party, which is named after the unfortunately titled Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, consists of that game’s prominent trio: Roxas, Axel, and Xion. The “BBS” team, or Birth By Sleep, features Terra, Aqua, and Ventus. Finally we have the “DDD” party for Dream Drop Distance. This team, somewhat disappointingly, has Riku teamed up with two Dream Eaters rather than actual characters.

Disney Characters

The rest of the 20 playable characters are made up with the assortment of Disney characters. King Mickey is the only one who functions differently, serving as an assist during songs. Other Disney characters making up the roster, replacing either character besides the party leader, include Hercules, Aladdin, Mulan, beast, Ariel, Simba, Peter Pan, and Stitch.

Each new fully party is unlocked by progressing through the game’s World Tour mode, which serves as the game’s main campaign mode.
