It was pretty surprising when Koei Tecmo announced that the next patch for Dead or Alive 6 would be the game’s final update. Seemingly washing its hands of the poorly received fighter, the once-proud series was going out on a low note after pumping itself full of so much egregious DLC. Not content to simply let the game die unceremoniously, there is one final bit of DLC that will be available for the scantily clad brawler.

Titled the “High Society” costume pack, this piece of DLC will feature a bunch of schoolgirl outfits for all of DOA’s ladies. It also isn’t included in the final $90 season pass, so that’s wonderful. Koei Tecmo really cannot stop when it is ahead, even after announcing the death of this title.

Costumes are hardly the worst bit of DLC, but the sheer amount and cost of what Dead or Alive 6 has it what makes it contentious. The core game is fine, but issues with netcode and a lack of options make all of the DLC stick out like a sore thumb. Then there’s the fact that nearly $2,000 worth of additional content is available and you can clearly see where Koei Tecmo’s priorities stand.

With 6 entering its sunset period, maybe a revival for next-generation platforms can finally bring the series back to its roots. It is fine and all that the developers want this series to be “sexy,” but just stop with the constant nickel and diming of fans.
