In the latest story of Konami disappointing fans, the company has accidentally misled their fans that news regarding one of its most beloved IP was upcoming. The company has been on a downward trend in the eyes of fans ever since the details and rumors surrounding Hideo Kojima’s departure came to light. Since then, Konami has been relatively quiet in terms of their gaming division, with the exception of its sports titles, leaving many fans desperate for news about the future of its most beloved IP.
This past Friday, July 31st, Konami sent out a Tweet from its official Twitter account containing the iconic audio of Silent Hill 2’s siren. The text accompanying the clip simply read, “Close your eyes. Always scary. Silent hill 2 Siren.” When this began stirring up theories and hopes for new on the iconic horror franchise, the developer stepped back in to clarify that was not the case.
“Easy there internet. We were watching streams of Dead By Daylight and thought we would share the noise and feel of being hunted. We wont take the tweet down and ‘backpedal’, we just wanted you to enjoy it.” Konami said in a follow-up tweet. Silent Hill characters and locations were among the latest to be added to the hit multiplayer horror game Dead By Daylight, which is the most attention the series has gotten since 2012, excluding the pachinko machine.
Konami’s final comments on the matter were to apologize for raising fan expectations with nothing to announce, and said, “Anything official would come from first from @SilentHill or an event or something, not from us.”
While this move was clearly a poor decision on the part of Konami, it does not mean there isn’t a chance for some Silent Hill related announcement soon. The Twitter account it pointed to as the source for an announcement was only created in July, leading many to believe it will be used for just such a purpose.
Other rumors have been circulating about Sony possibly working with Konami in some capacity on either a new Silent Hill title, or possibly a reboot of the series for the upcoming PS5. The upcoming August showcase is where many believe this announcement will be made.
Between the creation of the Silent Hill Twitter account, new content added to Dead By Daylight, and persistent rumors, it seems more likely than ever that there may be a real Silent Hill announcement of some kind in the near future. What form that will take, and whether it will actually meet growing fan expectations, remains to be seen.
