Cliff Bleszinski is one of the strongest characters in the video game development scene, and so many gamers were intrigued to see what he could come up with under new studio Boss Key Productions. The developer’s inaugural game, Lawbreakers, launched in August, but was immediately hit with low Steam concurrent player counts. Now, Cliffy B has opened up about the launch of the game.

Speaking in a recent interview, Bleszinski discussed the arrival of LawBreakers, in particular regarding those low player statistics and how it has perhaps changed his outlook. “I can be very cocky and very brash on social media. And realising that, you know, we have a fledgling player base,” stated Bleszinski. “It’s been very humbling for me. I’m going to continue to iterate on this game, continue to add to it.”

It’s certainly clear that the developer is not giving up on turning around LawBreakers’ popularity just yet, with Bleszinski stating that “it’s a marathon. Not a sprint.” The studio created the game with the idea of building “a shooter for shooter players,” and apparently this central idea is still on the table. “We’re going to keep iterating keep working on it. At the end of the day, I didn’t want to make the exact same archetypes that everybody else did.”

Although Boss Key has yet to confirm exactly how it plans to turn things around, the developer did release a LawBreakers future content roadmap to give a better idea of what it has in store for players. Meanwhile, Bleszinski has hinted at the studio trying to promote the game further through sales and free weekend trials.

That said, there’s no getting around exactly how poor LawBreakers has done so far on PC. Although Bleszinski has stated the game is faring better on PS4, the multiplayer shooter is actually doing worse than Battleborn on Steam, which certainly suggests that turning the game into a standout success is going to be tough. Let’s see how Boss Key aims to bring LawBreakers to the top table.
