Runeterra is a crazy, interesting world that has pretty much everything in it. A magic, card-throwing con man, electrical furry ninjas, monsters from another dimension. It is hard to imagine a stereotype in pop culture that was not included in League of Legends one way or another. Especially now, with over 150 champions, there is certainly at least one champion for each person who plays the game.
Turns out that the game might have way too many champions, even. There are quite a lot of them who are played by less than 2% of the total number of players currently playing the game.
10 Kennen, The Heart of the Tempest
Kennen is the only member of the yordle species or race, that is a member of the Kinkou. He is known for his devastating electrical energy that can be used to strike down the strongest foes. Not many people know this, but Kennen is also the disciple of Master Shen and is in charge of patrolling the spirit world.
Once a powerful character back in a world where League of Legends characters had a much more modest kit, Kennen has been falling in disuse. Most likely due to the many multi-effect powerful kits and more interestingly designed champions that have been surfacing.
9 Maokai, The Twisted Treant
In the League of Legends universe, treants are spirits of nature that take the form of a living plant. Most treants were completely corrupted and lost their sapience, but few a few survived this terrible fate. One of the few that survived this tragedy in the Blessed Isles was the treant known as Maokai.
Maokai is a very easy champion to play and is fairly effective. However, his stats do not make up for his lack of versatility when compared to newer supports. Although his kit is good, there is always a better option.
8 Taric, The Shield Of Valoran
Taric is a guardian of Runeterra. He represents life, love, and beauty. Taric went to Mount Targon in search of redemption and was blessed with a higher calling. With the power of ancient Targon, Taric fights the void and stands for what is right.
Taric has changed significantly since his first version, and many players would argue that he did not become any better. After Riot got rid of his target stun skill, there was little reason left to pick The Shield of Valoran. However, there are those who think Taric is underrated.
7 Yorick, The Shepherd Of Souls
Yorick released in 2011 before Thresh, The Chain Warden would see immense success as a support (and sometimes an ADC). Riot has consistently struggled with balancing him and, as a result, he never really sees popularity among players.
That’s a shame because, even more than a Sion, Yorick can apply insane lane pressure using his abilities. His rework did not rid him of his pets which can make anyone’s day just that much worse in game. Solo players may look to getting good with him for ranked games as no one quite knows how to counter Yorick since he’s never used.
6 Taliyah, The Stone Weaver
A powerful earth mage from Shurima who is learning how to be a responsible adult, Taliyah has traveled around the continent to learn the origin of her powers. She is now focused on protecting her tribe and perfecting the growing magic that she wields.
As a champion in summoner’s rift, Taliyah is easy to counter when facing a highly mobile champion. Turns out that most champions considered good have great mobility options. She also has mana costs and cooldowns that are not very forgiving and trouble to clear waves.
5 Trundle, The Troll King
Not many titles in League of Legends sound as powerful and intimidated as The Troll King. Trundle is an enormous strong creature that is prone to violence. This character is known for bullying those in his path and forcing weaker beings into submission by beating them down with his club until they do as commanded.
When it comes to his kit, Trundle has a weak one. He doesn’t have hard Crow Control skills, nor an instant mobility tool such as a dash or teleport. Although he is constantly healing and can steal the enemy’s armor, there are other champions who are either more effective or straight-up more fun to play.
4 Singed, The Mad Chemist
Singed is your classic scientist gone mad and turned into a bad guy. Seems that his poisons and experiments affected him, turning Singed into a heartless creature of madness and destruction who intends to consume everything with poison.
As a character, he does not have the most appealing kit. Although Singed might still be fun to play, he is not very appealing. When compared to newer characters who have skills that do 2 or 3 different things, his kit feels a bit dull. He just is not as popular as he once was.
3 Rammus, The Armordillo
He’s just a poor armored hedgehog, reptile creature (turtle?) trying to get his role on. Once considered a top-tier jungler thanks to his crowd control and gank potential, Rammus has since fallen out of favor – even in ranked play.
However, there are whispers of an impending rework which many fans would love to see. Moutain Drake perks may need to be revisited at the rework’s launch though. Apparently, stacking that buff and getting Mountain Soul can get pretty wild for Rammus.
2 Aurelion Sol, The Star Forger
One of the most distinct-looking champions that players can see in Summoner’s Rift, The Star Forger is remembered when seen. However, that is mostly because people do not pick him much. Aurelion Sol was one of Riot’s proudest reveals but turns out that although he was impressive, he has quickly fallen off in popularity.
Aurelion Sol’s kit is not considered hard by Riot, but it is quite hard to optimize its use. He is one of those cool characters that players are afraid to see in their own team and therefore hasn’t been picked consistently by most players, which is also why not many people understand how strong he might be.
1 Ivern, The Green Father
Ivern is not a treant, apparently, but a half-man half-tree creature. Apparently, he just travels throughout Runeterra to cultivate life. He is known for sharing weird words of wisdom with those he meets.
Ivern was never very popular. His kit is more tactical than flashy. Most League of Legends players gravitate towards characters that fulfill their power fantasy. His kit also depends way too much on teamwork, which is not favored in Solo Queues, and he might just not be visually appealing for most players.
