Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is perhaps the only sitting congressperson to do the impossible: make it to Silver III in League of Legends while fending off right-wing trolls on social media.

For most gamers, coronavirus really hasn’t changed our hobby all that much. Maybe we play more of it, but otherwise we’re still sitting in our homes with our eyes glued to a screen for hours on end.

However, some part-time gamers have decided to put a little bit more effort into their hobby thanks to all this free time that has suddenly been dumped in their laps. One of those people just so happens to be the representative for New York’s 14th district and the youngest female congressperson ever elected.

I speak of course of the great Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

AOC took to Twitter yesterday to share with us perhaps her greatest accomplishment to date: reaching Silver III in League of Legends. There was some initial confusion as she didn’t originally mention League and so Overwatch fanboys were clamoring for her Blizzard ID, but no, she’s a Leaguer. And as you’d likely suspect given her stance as an emphatic proponent of Medicare for All, she’s a support main (Sona, Janna, Lux, and Mord are her main roster, but she’s working on building up her Lulu).

Sometimes, she even plays Soraka.

According to EsportsTales, making it to Silver III puts AOC in the top 59.6% of players. That’s smack in the middle of the bell curve of all League of Legends pro players, and is certainly an accomplishment for a sitting congressperson, although she’s still not the best LoL-playing politician in America. PCGamesN reports that California Representative Josh Harder managed to make it into Platinum last year.

But hey, the pandemic is still on, so maybe we’ll see AOC hit Gold in the not too distant future.

And before you ask, yes, she definitely thinks that League of Legends infamous toxicity has been a helpful thing for dealing with Twitter trolls. “Right-wing twitter is child’s play compared to inting 13-year-olds,” writes AOC in her reply to a fan.
