A brand new region by the name of Mount Targon will be coming to Legends of Runeterra in its next update, developer Riot Games has confirmed. Each new update in the future will have its own unique name, this one being Call of the Mountain.
Call of the Mountain will be the next expansion for the popular digital collectible card game, and is reportedly going to be kicking off a new structure for card releases moving forward. It’ll also be the first of three expansions which are lined up throughout the rest of the year, and together they will form the Call of the Mountain set. The whole set will focus on this new Mount Targon region.
Each of the subsequent expansions will feature new mechanics and themes introduced in the first one, but of course with evolved strategies as you progress through them.
This next expansion will add a whole 89 new cards and 7 champions to the game later this month, along with a handful of new modes and cosmetics too. The two expansions that will follow (slated for October and December releases, respectively) are going to be adding 40 more cards and 3 new champions each. So it seems there’s a fair amount to look forward to over the coming months!
Interestingly, the devs say they had already started developing the Targon region and its set before the existence of Legends of Runeterra was even announced earlier this year. It was just about settling on the right time to let its fans in on the secret, too.
A new ranked season will apparently launch along with the launch of each new set of expansions in the future. That means that when Call of the Mountain comes out on August 26th, a new ranked season will simultaneously be kicking off.
From today - August 11th - Riot Games will begin revealing cards for the Call of the Mountain set on its various social channels, so keep an eye out for that!
