TT Games’ Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga debuted its gameplay for the first time at Gamescom 2020, and confirmed a Spring 2021 release date.
The Gamescom trailer features highlights from across the nine mainline Star Wars movies (aka the Skywalker saga) brought to life with Lego minifigs - there’s podracing, space dogfights, a battle with a Rancor and another with General Grievous, and more. The trailer features plenty of jokes in a style familiar to anyone who’s played a Lego game before, including an Emperor Palpatine not quite understanding that plastic lightning doesn’t have the same effect as honest-to-goodness Force lightning.
First teased in 2019 at Star Wars Celebration, the game is a follow-up to the last Lego Star Wars game, based on The Force Awakens. This time around, the game will amalgamate all nine Skywalker Saga films into one epic story, featuring over 500 characters. Characters will include both good and evil - everyone from Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, BB-8, Luke Skywalker, all the way to Darth Maul and Kylo Ren. True to Lego game form, many of those hundreds of characters will be playable.

TT Games has been making well-received Lego games since 2005 with the development of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, which was an adaptation of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be the sixth in the line of Star Wars games for TT Games, but they’ve also worked on Harry Potter, Batman, Lord Of The Rings, and other franchises.
The games’ mechanics are usually pretty similar to one another, despite the varied characters and settings. They are action-adventure stories, with plenty of light combat and filled with good-natured jokes.
