A major upgrade has rolled out on Astragon Entertainment and LuGus Studios’ forthcoming Xbox One and PS4 drone simulation title Liftoff Drone Racing back to the fore. As announced in an official press release, Liftoff developers have come up with an enthralling ‘campaign mode’ to cater to the demands of green and virtuoso drone racers alike. The new feature, which has been tailored - like the several other Liftoff gameplay options - to suit individual gamers’ experience with drone racing, has prompted a surge in popularity for the realistic video game across all social media platforms, providing it an edge over its recently released counterpart DCL: The Game.

Liftoff’s campaign mode intends to acquaint gamers with the rudiments of virtual drone racing while taking them through an overview of the sports. The campaign mode traces First Person View drone racing down to its roots, revisiting the era of 2015 where UAV competitions were still a mint concept and the buzz around them had only started to grow. But historical insights into FPV drone racing aren’t the only feature that Liftoff’s campaign mode has to offer. The feature is targeted primarily at honing racers skills through routine challenges. In the campaign mode, newcomers can climb up the game’s leaderboard starting with basic challenges, while skilled aeronauts can skip directly to the more nimble and rip-roaring championships and make their way up to the top.

The game’s campaign mode will allow players to customize their drones. As flyers triumph in a challenge, they will unlock certain drone parts, which they can use to modernize their remote-controlled aircraft. The more sophisticated the drone, the better it will perform during the races. All these features have been teased and briefly explained in the Liftoff campaign mode trailer.

A follow-up announcement has detailed what the tutorial mode in Liftoff Drone Racing would look like. The gamers’ piloting journey will kickstart in a nonchalant backyard, and the initial challenges will involve learning basic drone controls and preventing crashes. Gradually, as players get a grip of the sport, they will be able to take part in local races, which will ultimately pave their way into master-level championships. The initial phase of the tutorial realizes that handling drones for rookies can be a frustrating experience, hence there is also an Assisted Pilot option that stabilizes drones for players until they can do it on their own. Liftoff’s campaign mode is one of the main gameplay functions available in the game, but there are also several other modes like single-player races, freestyle mode, free flight mode, and a multiplayer mode to account for a rewarding drone race experience.

Despite regular updates on Liftoff Drone Racing’s offerings, the absence of a release date is a predicament for fans. In retrospect, DCL is more standardized than Liftoff, which has a personal approach. But if for gamers, the bottom line is stunning visuals and realisticness, then DCL takes the cake. Perhaps if developers reveal a release date for Liftoff soon, there will be more clarity about its performance.
