Limited Run Games has proudly been acknowledging worthy game releases that deserve a physical release. The company announced recently that a slew of favorites within the gaming community would be getting the physical treatment including Bloodstained, Castlevania and Ys Origin.
The company gave gamers a sneak peak during the LRG3 2020 livestream of what some of the artwork on the game boxes would look like. Most of these games can be viewed on the company’s Twitter page that features more common cases of video game box art next to more detailed designs. Some of the classics up for grabs will be Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2, Castlevania Anniversary Collection, Katana Zero, My Friend Pedro, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, Super Meat Boy Forever and Ys Origins. An impressive list so far with more on the way.
The distributing company has announced over 30 physical releases of digital-only games that will be coming soon, however there will also be some new titles amongst the classics. While there is not a lot of information to go on, the company has confirmed that it is working with Shantae developer WayForward on another River City Girls game. With almost all of the physical editions available on consoles, Limited Run Games have also announced a few retro releases with Shantae and Xtreme Sports being released as reproduction cartridges for the Game Boy Color.
LRG stated on its Twitter page that GameSpite would be hosting regular YouTube videos on its channel that would discuss the companies healthy list of past releases, methodically talking on each game that will start with Breach & Clear. Various other devs like Fabraz have partnered with the company to bring games like Demon Turf to the Switch and other platforms. Its Castlevania Anniversary Collection was one of the favorites picked out from its list of recent releases that has already started a demand from fans to bring out Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood.
There is a strong following behind Limited Run for its dedication in putting physical releases first. A large majority of its following are expecting the company to branch out to reproduce retro cartridges for older titles like they are doing with Shantae and Xtreme Sports. As most rare retro games are only available for a high price these days, LRG’s potential development into older game replicas may offer retro gamers the chance to play their favorite games again without depleting their bank accounts.
