Limited Run Games has announced that it is having a massive sale on games in the Nintendo eShop, with some games receiving as much as 87 percent off. The sale begins August 2nd and ends August 17th.
The company is well known for publishing physical copies of games that previously received exclusively digital releases, but in a bit of a turnabout, this sale is limited to games on the eStore. Notable titles include the 25th Anniversary Editions of Night Trap and Double Switch, Saturday Morning RPG, Cosmic Star Heroine, and Revenge Of The Bird King.
All five of these games are available for less than three dollars each, so you can grab the entire set for about ten bucks. Night Trap is an FMV point and click best described as cheesy B movie slasher meets Home Alone, where players protect a group of cheerleaders enjoying a weekend sleepover from vampires by setting traps and monitoring things via camera.
Double Switch is an FMV centered around sleuthing out the secrets surrounding the residents of Edward Arms. Players will make use of the mansion’s security system to protect its residents, but which residents are friends and which are enemies isn’t obvious at first glance.
Saturday Morning RPG describes itself as an episodic JRPG heavily inspired by cartoons in the 1980s. It’s chockfull of nostalgia bait, wild colors, tongue-in-cheek references, and just about everything you can imagine that codifies the 1980s. Players can enjoy the five self-contained episodes that comprise Saturday Morning RPG at their own pace. Items and stats carry over from previous episode playthroughs, and players can play through the episodes in any order.
Cosmic Star Heroine is a space adventure where players travel the galaxy to protect it from a horrible threat. The game promises aliens, magic, and ghosts in no particular order. Cosmic Star Heroine is notable for putting its own spin on classic JRPG turn-based combat, and players may find themselves greatly enjoying the blend of old and new as they fight to save the galaxy.
Revenge of the Bird King is an action platformer that harkens back to ye olde NES era with its minimalistic pixel art, eye-searing colors, and cheesy… everything, really. The game is the third entry in the Gunworld franchise, and although it doesn’t do a very good job of explaining what happened in the previous games, we all know what we’re here for, and it’s not the story.
Make sure to check these games out before August 17th!
