Little Witch Academia is getting its own VR game later this year. The game will come first to Oculus Quest and then to PSVR, SteamVR, and Oculus Rift in early 2021.

Little Witch Academia VR Broom Racing is based on the anime and manga series Little Witch Academia. The story follows Akko, a student of Luna Nova Magical Academy, as she and her classmates train to become witches. The game, from developer UNIVRS, is a virtual reality broom racing game that allows players to soar through the sky using magic to race around.

This project was fueled by a Kickstarter last summer and surpassed its goal by $30,000. Kickstarter has had a hand in Little Witch Academia’s projects in the past, with a sequel to a 2013 short film being funded by the same platform. Developing the game with UNIVRS means it will be equipped with the developers’ anit-motion sickness tech, something that will come in handy for a game based completely on zooming through the open air. Originally meant to be released last month, Little Witch Academy VR Broom Racing was slightly derailed by COVID-19 but is now on track for an end of the year release.

Fans of the series will be able to zip through the sky as their favorite characters, just like magic.
