Within a mere 48-hours of going live with its Kickstarter campaign, 8-bit side-scrolling action platformer Lords of Exile hit its initial funding goal of $13,000.

As of the time of this writing, the campaign has also reached its first stretch goal of adding a Boss Rush Mode, which will allow players to take on all of the game’s bosses along with a time counter to add some value for speedrunners and more competitive players.

For those who may not be familiar with the game, Lords of Exile will feature classic retro mechanics and linear level design, drawing much of its inspiration from other games of the late 80s and early 90s, such as Castlevania.

While Lords of Exile already features 8-bit sound effects and a chiptune original soundtrack, the next stretch goal of the campaign will allow a duo of chiptune composers to actually take the direction of the game’s music. Some of the stretch goals after that include a Speed Runner Mode, as well as a secondary unlockable female character.

Lords of Exile is already sitting pretty at nearly $18,000, which is well beyond the original goal of $13,000. Given the interest it’s already generated, it’s hard to imagine that Lords of Exile’s development will be slowing down any time soon.
