Fortnite has been a game to incorporate a huge variety of outfits and aesthetic customization options, from those inspired by popular film franchises to direct references to different Fortnite streamers. In terms of the latter, it had been leaked that Fortnite players would be getting access to a costume based on streamer Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten. However, it turns out that the release of the Loserfruit Icon series skin is being pushed to a later date.
According to Dexterto, Loserfruit herself announced the delay with a statement. Her statement points out that the “timing isn’t right,” likely referring to the ongoing protests.
Further, she said in a recent Twitch stream that it isn’t ideal to “celebrate at the moment” and expressed regret over an Instagram story in which she had teased the announcement.
Loserfruit elaborates that the skin will be coming neither this week nor the following week, which will be the week of the new season’s release. As such, there is no definitive date for the Loserfruit skin, but it may be safe to suspect that it will be coming out sometime during the Summer.
As mentioned previously, Loserfruit doesn’t explicitly mention the motivation behind the collaborative decision by Epic Games and herself to not release or officially announce her Fortnite skin until a future date. However, the explanation that the time didn’t feel right falls in line with other companies that are currently delaying announcements to put the spotlight on the Black Lives Matter movement.
However, the next season will be coming next week regardless. The details are still under wraps, though is suspected that the teased “flood” will be arriving at some point. Further, it has been theorized that the next season will feature a Spongebob Squarepants crossover event. There has yet to be any confirmation on this point, but an image in a tweet from the official Fortnite Twitter account is suggestive of this idea.
As for the next content creator skin announcement and release, while Loserfruit appears to be next in line for a skin, Ninja’s addition has opened the floodgates for others to come.
