Mario Kart Tour’s summer fun continues with the all-new Pirate Tour, now available on the app!
Following the Wild West Tour that ran from July 28-August 11, the Pirate Tour is now live until August 25. Players can take to the seas and race as two new avatars: a unique Boswer Jr. who’s dressed like a pirate, or King Bob-omb, who’s making his playable character debut in both the Mario Kart franchise and the Mario universe in general.
In addition to the two unique racers, players can enjoy some brand new pirate-themed kart customizations, including the Pirate Sushi Racer, a kart that gives off the appearance of a pirate ship, and the Great Sail, a glider that looks just like a pirate ship sail.
But it wouldn’t be a Mario Kart Tour event without a themed course, right? Luckily, the mobile racing game is bringing back a classic course from 2005’s Mario Kart DS - the Airship Fortress course! This epic course takes place on a flying airship, making it a perfect selection for the Pirate Tour. Though Mario Kart Tour’s reimagined Airship Fortress course looks a little different from its original DS iteration (especially with its cool new lava-filled setting) it still looks like a ton of fun for a scurvy pirate adventure.
To celebrate the launch, Mario Kart Tour’s official Twitter account (@mariokarttourEN) tweeted an announcement, warned players about the newly designed Airship Fortress, and also released a minute-long trailer depicting the kinds of races players can expect.
Mario Kart Tour is a Nintendo mobile game based on the popular and long-running Mario Kart franchise. This free-to-play game features themed “tour” events every two weeks, allowing players the chance to race on different courses, and earn unique racers from the Mario universe and kart customizations biweekly. Though the game is free to play, it has a number of microtransactions, including a subscription service for players.
Mario Kart Tour is currently available as a free-to-download app for both iOS and Android devices on the App and Google Play Store, respectively. The Pirate Tour is currently live in the game. It ends on August 25.
