Emma Frost is one of the most popular X-Men characters ever, a mutant, shapeshifter, and telepath who went from being one of the series’ primary antagonists to one of its most lauded heroes. The White Queen has been immortalized in comic book history; she also appears in quite a few of the Marvel X-Men video games - even as far back as the forgotten NES platformer The Uncanny X-Men.
Here are 10 amazing cosplayers who took it upon themselves to bring this famed character to life. If you like their work, feel free to check out their social media profiles using the provided links.
10 Kaorifrost
This simplistic yet stunning cosplay, modeled by Kaorifrost with photography by Ricardo Trevisan, shows that having an eye for what works (and what doesn’t) can truly make a cosplay. The skill and technique shown here is the cap on a truly wonderful cosplay held together by perfect outfit design (seriously, even the shoes look great) and a keen sense of attention to detail.
In the end, talent alone is what sells this creative and well-executed cosplay, at least for us.
9 Alex Willow
Cosplayer Alex Willow and photographer Riyato band together for this Victorian-era look at the decorative mutant. A significantly well-designed outfit and an enigmatic expression are cosplaying basics, and Alex Willow knocks them out of the park with apparent ease. The lighting is par excellence and greatly assists the picturesque scenery.
A great take on Frost that has sadly not been emulated by others, this cosplay masterwork is in a league of its own.
8 Aciddaisy
Deviantart user Aciddaisy and photographer Evgenia bring this magnificent cosplay to life. While the outfit is spot-on and the hair looks great (especially because of some inspired lighting choices), the real icing on the cake here is how the cosplay pokes fun at Frost’s complicated relationship with Iron Man. Marvel fans dig call-backs, and this one is almost artistic in nature - if somewhat unconventional.
A golden mix of cosplaying flair and aesthetic genius solidifies this creation as a top-tier triumph.
7 CosplayButterfly
Elegance, thy name is Emma Frost, and model Cosplay Butterfly and photographer AS Photography perfectly capture the mutant’s stylish side with a charismatic touch of panache. The outfit is perfectly crafted from start to finish; even the earrings are fitting - a little extra pizzazz never hurt anyone. The composition is top-notch and the wavy golden hair helps to establish the glance of grandeur we’re given.
This is a thoroughly impressive cosplay that checks off all the boxes - and, better yet, gives us major Emma Frost vibes.
6 Alinechan
Cosplayer Alinechan gives us this graceful imagining of the White Queen with undeniably gifted technique and voguish detailing. The outfit is fashionable with little bits of creativity here and there, and the key elements come together in a way that only the best of cosplayers could hope to pull off.
What really seals the deal, however, is the examination of an underdeveloped aspect of Frost’s personality; something a little quieter, almost introspective - at the very least, it certainly makes good food for thought.
5 Modfoxu
A singularly amazing effort from Instagram user modfoxu and photographer Harold Mckenney, this unique cosplay is bristling for creativity and enthusiasm, from the sparkly silver adorning Frost’s healthy skin to her stylish outfit (complete with fluffy cape), perfected poise, and sylphlike composition.
An awe-inspiring tribute to a worthy character, this cosplay is powerfully delivered by a true virtuoso of the craft.
4 Danielle Denicola
Cosplayer Danielle Denicola delivers a unique radiance that works beautifully in both these cosplays to display two separate sides of Emma Frost, although, in many ways, both are the same. An unwavering look of superiority communicating a mindset along the lines of “I’m fantastic and I know it.” Spot-on costuming and marvelous lighting banding together to deliver splendor and spectacle, tied together by the photography brilliance of David Love.
This is cosplay at its finest - a tribute created solely out of love for a truly influential character.
3 Zoe Volf
There’s that unmatchable elegance again. Photographer rozzylis and prolific cosplayer Zoe Volf have created a cosplay beyond description; even the most eloquent may find themselves short of words. Clad in a sparkling silver outfit and carrying herself with nimble finesse, Zoe Volf is Emma Frost to a T, and that’s really all that matters.
A cosplay can’t survive on the subject’s beauty alone. The cosplayer must have a pure understanding of the character’s psyche. They have to put themselves inside the character’s head, so to speak. Ultimately, Volf’s dedication to doing so here is what puts her in a league of her own.
2 Ashton Leigh
This cosplay is done by Ashton Leigh, with photography by Kirsten Marie.
Usually, there’s one thing in particular that stands out for every cosplay. Here, however, every element finds itself useful in equal proportions: the costume is extremely detailed and stands out thanks to its inviting, wintery color; the lighting is perfect to set the mood for each shot, and the veritable phenom Ashton Leigh even looks upon little details like the hair and scenery from a perfectionist standpoint.
The final result speaks for itself; there’s not a visible shred of amateurism in this breathtaking cosplay.
1 Yaya Han
Illustrious cosplayer Yaya Han has achieved worldwide fame; she’s one of the best in the business, to say nothing of her prolific collaborator, photographer Nicole Ciaramella.
Immersing herself in every cosplay she does, to an extent that many would find excessive, is what keeps Han a step ahead of the rest. There’s always a degree of one-upmanship present - everything is meant to be done better than others have done it before.
In portraying Emma Frost, she immediately has the poise down pat, carrying herself as if regaling in her own splendor, and her costume is extravagant and luxurious (you can get more details about the costume’s design process and view the entire photoshoot here).
