Living Card Game (LCG) publisher Fantasy Flight Games, is bringing the galaxy’s most-wanted, and our favorite, Marvel duo to the tabletop. That’s right fans, crank the volume up to eleven and prepare for Rocky and Bullwinkle Rocket and Groot to enter the fray.
Marvel Champions is a co-operative card game for one to four players based on the Marvel universe of characters. It was first published by FFG in 2019 and is a deck-building game that sees players build customized decks from fixed sets of cards, as opposed to blind starters and boosters. To get you up and running, the core set can be played using the included prebuilt decks and storylines. Marvel Champions is the most recent game that bares the LCG moniker but it has already seen several expansions set, hero packs, and scenario packs released.
Details for the new expansion set was announced as part of Fantasy Flight Games’ Gen Con Online events. The Galaxy’s Most Wanted brings the comic book versions of Rocket and Groot to the tabletop, rather than the cinematic variants MCU-only fans will be familiar with. We presume this will be after the Annihilation event, an occurrence that saw Groot lose the ability to form coherent sentences… but we could be wrong there.
Groot and Rocket are included as two hero decks, along with five new scenarios to play; no doubt we will see several villains from the Guardians of the Galaxy universe, but so far only The Collector and Ronan named so far. The box art does give away a few hints possibly? While not announced yet, we expect this expansion to be supported with the release of several other Guardians of the Galaxy Hero Packs including Peter Quill, although there is a special place reserved in The Garden, alongside Thanos, for Howard the Duck, should he be announced.
In addition to the upcoming Marvel Champions The Galaxy’s Most Wanted expansion, that has been slated for a February 2021 release, we are expecting several new hero packs to release later this year. Announced so far are Ant-Man, Wasp, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch who will join the already impressive roster of heroes. Expect to see these in stores from October, just in time for the holiday season. Pricing for the expansion is expected to be around $40, with the new Hero Packs at $15.
