Square Enix has revealed when the Marvel’s Avengers beta will go live, and what players with access to it will be able to experience.
When Square Enix officially announced Marvel’s Avengers in 2019, it was met with a pretty flat reaction. Pretty shocking when anything even remotely related to Marvel in the present day is almost guaranteed to succeed. The announcement also came when the hype for Avengers: Endgame was at its peak which might be part of the reason why the reaction wasn’t what the game’s developers might have expected.
Other than falling under what has become a very expansive Marvel umbrella, the game and the MCU share no connection. The game’s heroes don’t even resemble the actors who portray them in the movies which was a point of contention for some fans. However, last month’s War Table and the impending release of the game has upped the anticipation for Marvel’s Avengers considerably.
Even though Avengers’ release date is still more than seven weeks away, some lucky Marvel fans will get a preview of the game via its beta. Square Enix has now revealed when exactly the beta will launch. Players who preorder the PS4 version of the game will be the first who get to give it a whirl on August 7, 2020.
On August 14, 2020, players who have preordered Avengers on Xbox One and PC can join the beta. It will also be opened up to any PS4 players who sign up for it at that point. Another week later on August 21, 2020, the open beta will be made available to players across all three platforms, regardless of whether they have preordered the game or not. As for what the beta will include, Creative Director Shaun Escayg has shed a little light on that.
The beta will introduce players to campaign content, hero progression, co-op missions, drop zones, and the much-discussed War Zones. Pretty vague, but there is more good news. Crystal Dynamics will be holding a second War Table presentation on July 29, 2020, at 1 pm ET. During that event, more detailed information will be revealed about what exactly players will be able to do during the beta.
