Following a deep dive detailing the game play, mission structure, and abilities that Marvel’s Avengers offers, Philippe Therien, the game’s War Zone mode director, provided more details on traversal and side content within the various hubs.
In an interview with MP1st, Phillipe went into detail on how players have the opportunity to explore each location during down time and take on side content.
After selecting the Warzone location players will be able to pick a mission and playable hero along with their outfit. After loading into the location players can explore and even split up as much as they see fit until they’ve completed the main objective. Once the main objective is completed players will be returned to the Quinjet where you can select another mission. Like many Avengers games before it, Marvel’s Avengers will offer a host of locations including cities, underwater locations, and in orbit.
“These can be allies to rescue, bounty enemies, to defeat for loot, Hidden caches, secret AIM stockpiles of resources or you could raid AIM’s depots where they store gear! Typically those rewards are defended but you can roam around the environment without constantly fighting if you want to just admire the scenery or have fun doing traversal.”
Marvel’s Avengers offers the classic Avengers as playable character. As different as each hero is in personality and backstory, the same can be said regarding their abilities. While Thor can wield Mjolnir and fly, Hulk will run and jump high in the air to get from point A to B. “They are balanced to be able to cross the same distances in generally the same time with some differences of course” said Philippe, “But for those who aren’t flying they have acrobatic moves. Without giving too many spoilers…Hulk can jump, Widow has gadgets and Kamala…well she can stretch really good!”
Marvel’s Avengers is only a few months away from its September release. Though no dates have been set for next-gen consoles it’s expected that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be available in the fall as well. Helping players from having to break the bank, Square Enix confirmed that anyone who purchases the current-gen versions of the game will have a free upgrade to next-gen whenever they decide to go that route. In the meantime, expect more War Tables for the game as the release date approaches.
Marvel’s Avengers releases September 4, on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
