Players will not be able to use the same hero at the same time during Marvel’s Avengers War Zones. At least not to begin with.
The release of Marvel’s Avengers across multiple platforms is now less than two months away. Last month, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics finally revealed what was a boatload of information via its War Table presentation. It included more information about the game’s main thread, its primary antagonist, and a look at the gameplay in both the single-player campaign and the game’s War Zones.
Speaking of which, during a Reddit AMA with Avengers’ War Zones director Phillipe Therien, Marvel fans were given a glimmer of hope in regard to what they might feature. Or in this case, for the time being, what they won’t feature. War Zones allow players to team up with others around the world to complete unique missions, each picking a hero to take control of for that War Zone.
The question posed to Therien was whether players will be able to pick the same hero during a War Zone. So, in theory, enemies could be faced with five Thors or four Hulks. If that sounds entertaining to you, we have some bad news. Therien confirmed that players will not be able to do that. If someone else in the same War Zone has already selected Iron Man, everyone else will have to pick from the remaining heroes.
Players who do want to double up on heroes were given a glimmer of hope, though. In his answer, Therien added that the feature would not be available “at launch”. That got fans speculating that the feature will be added later. Perhaps players will be able to go back and redo War Zones once the main story is finished, and then is when they will be able to use as many Black Widows as they like.
One user was hopeful that it will be added eventually so that they can recreate the iconic Captain America vs. Captain America fight from Avengers: Endgame. Since the developers have made such a big deal out of how customizable the heroes will be, it might come as a surprise to some that the same ones won’t be able to fight side by side. Hopefully, as time marches on, the feature will be added and we can all compare our individual Iron Man suits in War Zones.
