The release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is now just days away and we couldn’t be more excited. As comic book gamers look ahead to 2020 and eagerly await the release of Marvel’s Avengers, we have been anticipating a game that is effectively the Avengers on steroids. At last count, the game had 35 playable characters from a litany of different Marvel comic books.

As the game’s name suggests, it is the third chapter in the Ultimate Alliance franchise. The first installment was released in 2006, its sequel in 2009, and we have had to wait a full decade for game number three, hence the anticipation. However, its developers have confirmed that storyline wise, Ultimate Alliance 3 will not follow on from the previous two games.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped us from playing them over the past few months to help get geared up for the new game. Luckily, we purchased and downloaded Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 when the games were re-released in 2016. We say luckily because both have now been removed from the PS and Xbox stores as well as Steam, without any warning whatsoever. It’s an odd move considering the imminent arrival of Ultimate Alliance 3.

As for Ultimate Alliance 3, well, you will not be able to play that unless you have a Nintendo Switch. Unlike the first two installments, the latest game will be available on one platform only. If you don’t already have a Switch, we would recommend buying one if for nothing more than this game alone. That way you can assemble your own team of Avengers without the restrictions of only having heroes from the MCU available to you.
