The Mass Effect series is all about making difficult decisions that affect your morality. If you do honorable deeds, your Paragon points increase, whereas negative actions improve your Renegade score. The second entry in the series added an extra element with interrupts.
These are either good or bad actions you can trigger in the middle of cutscenes. Many of them greatly affect how a quest plays out. You can’t do them whenever you want, though; you have to wait for a prompt. Thus, there are only a certain amount of interrupts in a single playthrough. Here are all of the Paragon ones in Mass Effect 2.
24 Switch Off Veetor’s Screens
Right at the end of the Freedom’s Progress quest, you meet a nervous Quarian named Veetor. At the time, his eyes are fixated on his wall of screens.
It’s here where you get the first opportunity for an interrupt. For this one, you use your Omni tool to turn off Veetor’s monitors.
23 Treat A Sick Batarian
Most people don’t know Batarians as deeply as other races, yet it’s common knowledge that they dislike humans. Nevertheless, you’re able to be kind to one of them.
Shortly after entering the Plague Zone, you’ll find a sick Batarian. During the following conversation, you can give him some treatment.
22 Kindly Interrupt Mordin’s Rambling
When you finally meet Mordin, the genius professor will try to work out your identity. His method includes rambling to himself, which will prompt a Renegade interrupt.
If you let it past, a Paragon one will then appear. And you will softly cut Mordin off to explain yourself.
21 Kindly Interrupt Mordin’s Rambling 2
Once Mordin boards the Normandy, Jacob tells him about the Collector abductions. In response, the Salarian begins to wonder how the creatures are pulling it off.
This will prompt some classic Mordin rambling. At this point, you can interrupt him again to explain what you already know about the situation.
20 Break A Young Man’s Gun
During the mission to recruit Garrus, you come across a young man. He’s excited to join the local Merc group to use his shiny new pistol. As it’s clear the kid will get himself killed, you can take the weapon and break it.
19 Punch Zaeed
Besides Morinth, Zaeed is the most morally questionable teammate you can recruit. Luckily, you have the chance to teach him a lesson during his DLC mission.
After he messes with a valve and puts everyone at the refinery at risk, you can question his actions. Then you’re able to punch him.
18 Berate C-Sec Officer And A Volus
While roaming around the Citadel, you can find a secret quest about a supposedly stolen credit chit.
After finding the missing item, the Volus who lost it and the officer on the case will still have harsh words for the Quarian they wrongfully accused. Luckily, you can scold both of the jerks.
17 Ease A Salarian Worker’s Pain
As part of Thane’s recruitment mission, you find yourself on Dantius Tower.
While there, you find a Salarian worker in critical condition after being attacked by Nassana’s forces. During the conversation with him, you can ease his suffering with an interrupt.
16 Knock Down An Overconfident Volus
Partway through the quest to recruit Samara, you meet a Volus, who thinks he’s gained incredible Biotic powers. And he’s ready to use them against the powerful Wasea.
To save him from being destroyed, you can try to convince him to leave and then hit the interrupt, which has you nudge the weakling over.
15 Order Kal’Reegar To Stand Down
Getting to Tali on Haestorm requires fighting through a lot of Geth troops. While doing so, you meet Kal’Reegar, who’s adamant about risking his life by helping you against a Colossus. During the conversation with him, an interrupt will order him to stand down.
14 Stop Tali From Shooting Legion
This one is triggered if you bring Legion on the quest to recruit Tali. When you come face to face with the Quarian, she notices the Geth and immediately tries to attack him. Use the interrupt to stop her from hurting one of the series’ best squadmates.
13 Stop Miranda From Killing Niket
In Miranda’s loyalty quest, you can physically stop her from killing her long-time friend Niket. It helps your teammate’s mental state, but it doesn’t do much for Niket as his ally then blasts him in the back.
12 Convince Mordin To Let Maelon Live
At the end of Mordin’s loyalty mission, the Salarian finds out that Maelon is curing the Genophage by choice. Frustrated by his former student’s actions, he threatens to kill him. It’s then when you can step in and convince the professor that it’s not the right way.
11 Pistol-Whip Archer
The Overlord expansion is among the best in the series. This is because it features a compelling story about a man torturing his brother in the name of science.
At its conclusion, the cruel scientist might try to stop you from helping his sibling. If so, you can pistol-whip him.
10 Save Survivor From Feral Hunter
When you’re searching for Jacob’s dad on his loyalty mission, you find an odd woman. She struggles to get words out, and then her speaking days are almost ended by a feral hunter with a gun. Thankfully, you can move her out of harm’s way.
9 Stop Garrus From Shooting Harkin
Harkin appears partway through Garrus’ loyalty quest, and the Turian forces the unsavory individual to help him. Then afterward, he threatens to shoot the man in the leg. With an interrupt, you get the option to stop your friend. Although, Garrus still headbutts him.
8 Keep Sidonis Safe
When Garrus is attempting to snipe Sidonis, your job is to get the target in position.
However, you can warn Sidonis and then pull him away from danger. Garrus isn’t a fan of it, but it gives his betrayer a chance to explain his actions.
7 Save Aresh From Jack
Jack has one of the greatest loyalty missions where you visit the awful facility in which she grew up. Towards the end of the quest, Jack is ready to kill another former resident. To stop her, you can either talk her out of it or use an interrupt.
6 Keep Kolyat From Taking A Life
Thane’s loyalty mission sees you and the Drell attempt to stop his son from assassinating a politician. It all comes to ahead with Kolyat pointing a gun at his target. During this moment, you can shoot a nearby light to distract the kid before punching him.
5 Console Nef’s Mother
While hunting Samara’s Ardat-Yakshi daughter, you enter the home of one of her victims. You then participate in an emotional conversation with a grief-stricken mother. When she starts to break-down, you have the option to console her.
