Model ships are collectibles in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. While they add nothing to the story, they are extra little goodies that decorate your ship with. They are especially nifty in the second game, as much about the Normandy ship is new and improved from its first version.

Shepard is often in stressful situations, dealing with hostile enemies, intergalactic politics, and of course always trying not to die. With all that they go through, they deserve some model ships to admire in their ship cabins while trying to unwind.

Some are found and some are sold, and it can be annoying to miss one and see that vast empty space in the cabin display. Also, those that are sold are best bought after Shepard gets a discount at the store.

The Model Ships And Their Locations

With their new version of the Normandy, Shepard has an amazing captain’s cabin. Just over their desk is a glass screen for model ships to be presented. Some are found, others are bought, and there is one that can only be obtained through DLC content.

There are 11 ships in all to collect.

Normandy SR-2

Of course, among the model ships is the most well-known spaceship of Mass Effect — the Normandy itself! While it’s not the original Normandy from the first game (this version was built by Cerberus), the improvements are undeniable.

Location: This is automatically Shepard’s first ship in the model display. When you explore the ship for the first time, go to Shepard’s cabin. The model is already in the display case above Shepard’s desk.

Flotilla Vessel

Also known as the “Migrant Fleet,” the Flotilla is the home of the Quarian race after they were kicked off their home planet by the Geth. It is one of the largest ships known in the Mass Effect universe.

Location: This is an easy model to miss. It is hidden among some boxes in the Alarei’s bridge during Tali’s loyalty quest. Just go upstairs to the final Alarei room. Right in front of Shepard should be a laptop with three thousand credits. Next to it is the model of the Flotilla.

SSV Normandy

Do not worry, as the original Normandy is not left out of this model collection. For those who are sentimental, there is a buyable model of their old ship from the first game.

Location: Bought at Citadel Souvenirs

Cost: 500 credits (416 with discount)

How to get Citadel Souvenirs discount: There are two methods to get a store discount. If Shepard has been reinstated as a Spectre, then they can tell the shopkeeper and will get a discount. If not, then Shepard will have to convince the shopkeeper and can only do so with a certain amount of Renegade or Paragon points.

Destiny Ascension

This Asari dreadnought has a unique design, resembling the gaping mouth of a whale shark. It is the flagship of the Citadel fleet and can fit a crew of about 10,000 inside.

Sovereign

Reapers are the main enemy of Mass Effect, but do not forget that they are also ships. Getting a model of one is possible, as haunting as they are.

Location: Bought at Citadel Souvenirs (only available after completing the Horizon mission)

How to complete Horizon Mission: This mission is triggered once Shepard has acquired the four squadmates in any order: The Warlord, Archangel, The Professor, and The Convict. The Veteran and The Thief do not count since they were originally DLC.

Alliance Cruiser

The Alliance Navy has many sorts of ships in their arsenal, one of them being the cruisers.

Location: Bought at Memories of Illium

How to get a discount at Memories of Illium: To get a discount, Shepard will have to solve a problem for the Asari shopkeeper, Ereba. She is standing beside the store and has a Krogan boyfriend reciting poetry to her. Shepard can either encourage or discourage their relationship. (If Shepard decides to encourage their relationship, they can later be found on Tuchanka). However, whatever Shepard chooses, Ereba will reward them with a store discount.

Athabasca Class Freighter

This human ship is actually named after Lake Athabasca in Canada.

UT-47 Kodiak Drop Shuttle

This model is based on the Normandy’s SR-2’s own version that sits in the Hangar Bay area. These little ships are used a lot by both the Alliance and Cerberus.

Location: Bought at Memories of Illium (only available after completing the Collector Ship mission)

How to complete Collector Ship Mission: To trigger this mission, you need to have collected eight squadmates, complete five missions and/or sidequests, and be on the Normandy.

Turian Cruiser

Of course, a Turian ship should be among Shepard’s collection. This cruiser is known for patrol purposes.

Location: Bought at the Omega Market

How to get a discount at the Omega Market: Shepard will need to convince the shopkeeper to provide them a discount. This will take a certain amount of Renegade or Paragon points.

Geth Ship

The Geth ship is another unique addition to the model collection. Their ships have no windows, as they do not need any.

Location: Bought at Harrot’s Emporium at the Omega Marketplace

Cost: 2,000 credits (1,666 with discount)

How to get a discount at Harrot’s Emporium: To get a discount, Shepard will have to get Kenn the Quariuan off of Omega. There are several ways to do this. Shepard can pay Kenn one thousand credits or arrange for Kenn to talk to Harrot. If Harrot and Kenn’s discussion is a success, Shepard will also get a discount at Kenn’s shop.

Shadow Broker Base

Last, but not least, is the Shadow Broker’s personal ship. While the ship is massive, it manages to keep hidden.

Location: This is obtainable within the Shadow Broker base. After defeating the Shadow Broker, Shepard must go to where the fight took place. While visiting Liara in that part of the base, the model will be sitting on one of the desks.

This ship is only available in the Shadow Broker DLC. All DLC is included in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.
