Mass Effect’s characters are diverse and memorable, and Mass Effect Andromeda’s contributions just make this more obvious. With romantic moments, heartbreaking deaths, and a lot of choices to make, the characters you meet become vital to your gameplay.
Enter Sloane Kelly. We learn a lot about Sloane Kelly in the four missions we have with her, but sometimes, there is stuff that gets overlooked and forgotten amidst all of the action. And so, if you’re looking to know more about her, you’re in the right place.
10 Once Had A Spotless Record
It’s hard to imagine Sloane being unproblematic, but her start was quite promising. In Systems Alliance, she served well. There’s a bit of confusion between this perfect record and the multiple altercations between other officers, but clearly, Sloane’s soldiering with the Alliance was once praised.
9 Bureaucracy? No, Thanks.
Speaking of those multiple altercations, one specifically got her discharged. The logistical tightness of the Alliance’s inner operations tested Sloane’s patience, ultimately leaving her frustrated and feeling a little punchy. This discharge from the Alliance was the start of Sloane’s future. Wonder if that dude she hit still feels it now that she’s a leader with an opposing force.
8 Sloane Has Heterochromia
Sloane’s character design gives her two different eyes: one brown and one blue. Heterochromia is a condition in which the pigments in one’s eyes don’t match, often leading to funky color combinations like Sloane. There are variations within the condition in which the color pigmentation may affect a small portion of the iris or fully encompass the iris.
7 She’s A Little Sensitive
Multi-faceted characters are what keep our attention in any story, and Sloane is no exception. You might not expect it from her, but Sloane’s feelings of heartbreak and betrayal are just as present as her bluntness.
After Director Tann went behind her back to make a deal with Clan Nakmor, Sloane took this as a personal betrayal. She and the Director didn’t get along, so the betrayal shouldn’t have been a surprise, but Sloane had more faith in the Director than that.
6 Her Attitude Has Advantages
Sloane is rough, resourceful, and quick-tempered. Many believed this would become a problem, especially if she continued with the Alliance. After all, taking orders was part of her job and she wasn’t too keen on that.
However, the former director admired Sloane’s passion and, though it often manifested in confrontation, found this attitude useful when it came to protecting the Nexus. She managed to get a whole clan of people on her side during the rebellion, so it couldn’t have been too off-putting.
5 Assassination Attempts On Her Failed…Repeatedly
Sloane has a couple of enemies. This shouldn’t be a surprise considering her attitude, status, and role in the Outcast community. It seems somebody wanted her removed from her position, and yet, Sloane Kelly still stands as of the beginning of the game. Were the assassins that bad, or was Sloane that good? You may want to take some lessons for your new character’s training, huh?
4 Her Voice Actress Is Just As Good On Screen
Indira Varma, Sloane Kelly’s voice actress, was a recurring character on Game of Thrones. If you weren’t a fan of the fantasy phenomenon and you don’t know who she is, Varma played a mother of three assassin daughters named Ellaria Sand. She was fierce, independent, and willing to shed some blood for her cause. Where have we heard that before?
3 Queen Of The Outcasts
The Outcasts are a crew of exiled criminals, rebels, and otherwise disregarded members of society inside the Nexus. On their own, they formed into a group with the familiar and appropriate name.
Sloane’s experience in Nexus security and her passion for disruption quickly earned her a place among Outcast royalty. She becomes the ruler of the planet, and while it is just one of many, any planet that Sloane steps foot on is aware of her presence. Without her, the group will surely fall into a squabbling group of exiled individuals once more.
2 A Protector Or A Dictator?
Sloane’s position as the leader of the Outcasts isn’t without contention. Her legendary status earns her unquestioned faith from some members of the group, but her complete power vacuum over the inner dealings of the community leaves some others feeling nervous. It sounds like her iron fist may weigh a little too heavy for everyone’s liking.
1 Your Actions Will Have Consequences
How you (as Ryder) choose to speak to Sloane will ultimately impact the storylines and opportunities you’re able to follow. In the Hunting the Archon mission, Sloane has Vehn Terev imprisoned and awaiting execution. If you make a deal with Sloane, she will allow you to speak with Terev. If you don’t, you will be removed from the premises and be forced to return to Reyes. So be careful when you speak to her, especially if you’re a big lore hunter and want to hear every bit of dialogue you can.
