Mass Effect: Andromeda offers players a chance to get to know a new cast of companions, some of which can be romanced. Since these characters are getting to know Pathfinder Ryder a bit, one of the things they have to do is to earn their team’s loyalty, just like in Mass Effect 2. One of those companions is the Turian rebel Vetra Nyx.

Vetra is the first female Turian to be a part of either Ryder or Commander Shepard’s squad. Gaining her loyalty is not so simple and could be missed if you don’t take the time to focus on it. There are a few steps involved in gaining the loyalty of Vetra and we’ll talk you through them.

Talk To Her Whenever You Can

One of the best aspects of Mass Effect is interacting with companions in the downtime on your ship. These interactions can reveal a lot about them and Vetra is no exception. You can even flirt with her to pursue a romance but it is not necessary in order to gain her loyalty.

So you don’t waste too much time, try to talk to Vetra after completing priority missions when she is in her usual spots aboard The Tempest, to the South-Eastern most part of the bottom floor.

Sisterly Love

When talking to Vetra for the first time, Ryder will walk in on Vetra talking with her younger sister Sid, who came to Andromeda with her. Sid can actually be talked to on the operations deck of the Nexus but this is not necessary to gain Vetra’s loyalty.

Further conversations reveal that Vetra had to raise Sid by herself after they were abandoned by their parents.

Unable to join the Turian military, Vetra had to keep the two afloat by taking whatever jobs she could, be it legal or illegal. This has caused Vetra to become extremely protective of her sister. This aspect of her personality plays a major part in her loyalty mission.

Acquiring Vetra’s Loyalty Mission

Vetra’s loyalty mission, called “Vetra Nyx: Means And Ends” can be acquired after leaving Kadara for the first time and having conversed with her enough. There are two different ways to acquire the mission after leaving Kadara.

  • Ryder will receive an email from Sid telling them she wants to talk with them and her sister Ignore the email terminal and go straight to Vetra’s room to walk in on the conversation

Regardless of how the quest is initiated, Sid will notify Ryder and Vetra about how she heard a message about how settlers are reportedly going missing and that it’s possible they were kidnapped. Vetra will scold her sister about the dangers of involving herself in something as dangerous as this but agrees to check it out.

Preparing For The Mission

This mission generally features close to medium ranged combat, so it’s best to bring weapons that are good for those kinds of encounters. If you don’t have anything suitable, new weapons can be crafted or purchased.

Be sure to bring a companion that pairs up well with both you and Vetra since you have to bring her along for this mission.

The Mission Itself

Once you’re done preparing, go to H-047c in the Remav system and land there. Head to the navpoint to see a dome structure, enter it to initiate the mission.

Once you’re inside, a trap is sprung on the party and they are seemingly captured by a mercenary named Meriweather who says she is out for Vetra’s blood. To add to this confusion other prisoners, who are eventually revealed to be former members of Meriweather’s gang who wanted a second chance, thank Vetra for saving them, despite her having no idea who they are.

Before that, you have to get out, scan the door downstairs to see that it’s locked. Eventually, someone with Vetra’s voice comes on the comms to help out and opens the door.

It is eventually revealed that this person is actually Sid who posed as Vetra since she wanted to help make a difference just like her sister. However, she ends up putting herself in the danger that Vetra tried so hard to make her avoid.

Progress further through the mission and Sid will eventually be captured by Meriweather and become held hostage.

Saving Sid

In the mission’s climax in a hanger bay, Meriweather has Sid in her grasp with a primed grenade in hand. She urges the party to drop their guns, which they start doing.

A button prompt will then appear that lets Ryder shoot at Meriweather. Pressing it will make her drop the grenade and let go of Sid, giving Vetra the opportunity to use it against her.

Sid will be fine even if you don’t press the prompt but doing so will give you a slight edge in the fight with Meriweather afterward.

At one point reinforcements will come in from the right so watch out for that. Take care of them to save Sid.

The Aftermath

Vetra will comfort her sister and scold her a bit about what she did. She will apologize and say she just wanted to help people get away from the criminal haven of Kadara, which she thinks was the right thing to do. From here Ryder can either say Vetra needs to be more protective of Sid or be more lenient with her since Sid is an adult now.

Regardless of what Ryder goes with, Sid will return to the Nexus safe and sound and Vetra is thankful for Ryder’s help. She is now loyal to Ryder.
