Mass Effect Legendary Edition only released last week and it already has a ton of mods. A new Eurogamer report details a few of them, such as the higher FOV mod for bigger camera angle sliders (ME Legendary already has a FOV slider, this just makes it even bigger), as well as this mod for Mass Effect 1 that provides you with unlimited sprint and Mako boosting.
By easily the best one is the “Same Sex Mod for Default Sheps” mod, which basically enables gay romance options in the first Mass Effect game. In the default game, male Shepards can romance Ashley, female Shepards can romance Kaidan, and both can romance Liara, although given Liara’s feminine figure, it sort of made the first game seem way too heteronomative.
However, this mod lets you change the gender flag for Mass Effect 1 “which should enable you to have m/m & f/f romances,” according to mod creator Biganimefan2, but with a few caveats.
First, this mod only works with the default Shepard appearances and will not function with custom Shepards. Second, you have to pick your gender at the start of the game for the romance options you want. After the introduction, the mod lets you swap your model’s appearance to be either female or male Shepard, tricking the game into allowing male/male or male/female romance options.
Notably, the game still thinks you’re the opposite gender, so NPCs will keep referring to male Shepard as “ma’am” and female Shepard as “sir.” This is an unexpected bonus for everyone looking to play Mass Effect 1 as trans Shepard.
Also, this mod doesn’t enable any cut voice lines either, so don’t expect anything monumental to occur in terms of dialog. At least, not from Biganimefan2. “I’m releasing this in the hopes that it will help others take it further possibly,” writes the mod creator on NexusMods, “so feel free to use just give me a credit if you do.”
In other Mass Effect Legendary Edition news, the most recent patch not only gave the game further visual updates and optimizations, but it also got rid of the wireless headset crash bug on Xbox Series X. And if you want to hear two grown-ass men argue about which Mass Effect is the best, well, we have that too.
