One developer who worked on Mass Effect 2 has had their name updated in the credits of the Legendary Edition because, since its release, they have transitioned.

With her transitioning following Mass Effect 2’s release, the game was left with her dead name in the credits, but this has been amended in the remastered release. This was pointed out by their cousin on Twitter who also stated that they don’t work at Bioware anymore.

“Inclusion and diversity are two of our core values at BioWare,” a spokesperson told Pink News, “It is important to us that we continue working on ways to make our games and culture more equal for all. Showing support to our staff and the LGBTQ+ community is an essential part of this and is why we respected the requests from individuals to update their names in the Legendary Edition credits.”

MacLaren added, “Turns out she did talk to someone about it. BioWare also updated her name in Mass Effect 3 and the DLCs!”

Avoiding deadnaming trans people is essential to respecting them; just like using the correct pronouns. BioWare has shown its solidarity with the trans community by understanding as much with the Legendary Edition’s release, updating the employee’s name to the correct one.

However, Mass Effect does have a troubled history regarding LGBTQ+ what with gutting certain romances following backlash from Fox News, but this is something actively being remedied by modders. Hopefully, it’ll also be proven to be a thing of the past come Mass Effect 4.
