One of the main factors that makes players return to Dark Souls 3 is the game’s PvP. Aside from playing through the entire game and its DLCs, players can also take the time to fight one another and test out various builds to see how effective they are. A recent massive mod overhauls all of that however, making Dark Souls 3’s PvP more intense, rewarding, yet balanced in return.
Known as Champion’s Ashes, the mod essentially reworks the game’s feint system, spells, weapons, armor, move sets, and much, much more. According to the mod’s Nexus page, “ASHES is a complete gameplay overhaul for Dark Souls III, intended to competitively balance PVP once and for all […] ASHES is intended to be a permanent fix for PVP and to completely replace vanilla. It is a huge quality-of-life fix that creates a complex and challenging PVP experience.”
Aside from changing the game’s divisive feint system, the mod also removes game-breaking exploits and bugs while also introducing new content in the form of equipment. Things like rings, new weapons, new armor sets, and improved spells all come with the mod. In return, players can purchase those items and experiment with them in PvP, or potentially in the game’s story.
If some players found the original PvP system in Dark Souls 3 to be lacking, the Champion’s Ashes mod seeks to completely change that and rebuild it from the ground up. The aim is to -provide a more rewarding and brutal PvP system that caters to players who care more about the game’s PvP than the game itself (to an extent.)
