May 2020’s selection of PlayStation Plus freebies are probably not what most people were expecting. Sony has announced that the free games on offer next month will be Cities: Skylines and Farming Simulator 19. Titles that task you with meticulously combing over inches of real-estate to craft your perfect city/farm, they are certainly good gets for being in quarantine.
Where the real disappointment comes from is a “leak” that went around a few days prior. Many were expecting the likes of Dying Light and Dark Souls Remastered to be on offer. Instead, Sony went with some incredibly niche titles that many are going to turn their nose up at. You can be better than the vast majority of Twitter users, though, and actually try these games out.
Cities may not be all that intuitive on a gamepad, but developer Colossal Order’s city builder is a fairly good take on the Sim City formula. It’s far better than anything EA has done with the IP in years and has a ton of extra content available via DLC packs. Farming Simulator 19 is…not much different than 17 or 18, but it’s still a relaxing and quaint little game.
Maybe these aren’t the high octane thrills that a service like PlayStation Plus should be giving out, but both games here are pretty good. Try not to be a snob about things and you might just find a new favorite.
