May was a banner month for lesser known, yet visually stunning games. However, a few heavy-hitting titles were able to make a notable impression on both critics and fans.

Detroit: Become Human

Metacritic Score: 79 / User Score: 8.7

With one of the highest User Score-ratings for May, Detroit: Become Human takes a look at what it truly means to be human, as players control three different human-like android protagonists. The interactive game drama takes place in the city of Detroit in the year 2038, with each of the thousands of choices to be made affecting the future of androids and humankind. Forgotton Anne

Metacritic Score: 80 (Averaged across platforms) / User Score: 7.1 (Averaged across platforms)

Forgotton Anne’s trailer looks like a movie in and of itself. The beautiful, hand-painted animation lends itself to stunning cutscenes, amazing backgrounds, and smooth side-scrolling animations. Uncover the magical and mysterious world of the Forgotlings in Forgotton Anne - available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Laser League

Metacritic Score: 81 (Averaged across platforms) / User Score: 6.6 (Averaged across platforms)

Laser League - “the laser combat sport of 2150” - features two teams with the goal of controlling lasers and eliminating the opposing team. Similar to Tron-mechanics, teams are unaffected by lasers of their own color, but are eliminated if touched by any lasers set by the opposition. Strategy and luck is the name of the game for success in Laser League, which is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection

Metacritic Score: 82 (Averaged across platforms) / User Score: 8.1 (Averaged across platforms)

Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection offers up the ultimate one-stop shop for all of your Street Fighter desires, featuring the series’ anthology of twelve different titles. The collection also features an online multiplayer experience for the titles of Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), you’ll have to search elsewhere if you’re looking for the Street Fighter: The Movie video game.

Unforeseen Incidents

Metacritic Score: 83 / User Score: 7.5

Unforeseen Incidents takes place in a visually stunning hand-painted world, as players try to uncover the mystery of a small town virus outbreak. The classical style interactive mystery has received rave reviews for its smart story, as well as its humor.

Ikaruga

Metacritic Score: 86 (Averaged across platforms) / User Score: 8.0 (Averaged across platforms)

Available for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC, Ikaruga features top-down, shoot-em-up mechanics, as a rebel pilot faces off against the oppressive Horai Regime, battling enemies from his ship named, Ikaruga. The ship can switch between black and white polarities, re-energizing itself by collecting enemy bullets that are of the same color.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

Metacritic Score: 88 / User Score: 7.9

In the sequel to the multi-award-winning RPG Pillars of Eternity, players find themselves captaining a ship as they adventure across the unexplored regions of the Deadfire Archipelago. The game - available on PC - includes a comprehensive character customization feature and improves upon everything from the original game.
