The prolific McFarlane Toys has bought the rights to make action figures from The Witcher series, specifically from Wild Hunt.

None of the toys have been showcased alongside the announcement, according to Destructoid, but we do know that the first run is targeted to release this Fall. The first set will be focused on The Witcher III. Whether or not McFarlane is also planning on making a run based on the Netflix series or the prior titles is unclear. Is a hot tub Geralt figure in the cards?

The toy company is likely trying to capitalize on the recent surge of interest in The Witcher after the release of the Netflix series last December. Shortly after it released, sales for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt surged by 554% compared to the previous year. This news propelled the series to sell over 50 million copies.

McFarlane Toys is known for their high quality products, along with previous licensing deals with big franchises like Destiny, Assassin’s Creed, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Fortnite, and The Walking Dead. The founder of the company, Todd McFarlane, is the creator of Spawn, and has worked as an artist on major Marvel properties like Spider-Man. The company is now the fifth largest action figure manufacturer in the U.S. MacFarlane was also the Executive Art Director for a 2012 action-RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which will be getting a remaster on September 8.

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt action figure run has a lot of characters to draw from and will likely be a success for McFarlane Toys. There are multiple outfits to put on Geralt, including the upper-class man look that he begrudgingly wore at the beginning of the game, the kick-ass Ciri, and the elegant Yennifer.

There’s a lot they could do with further accessories down the line, as well, like Roach the horse, the Witcher signs, the many many swords at Geralt’s disposal, and the creatures that he can slay. The series offers many potential routes for McFarlane.

Right now, the developers of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red, are working on Cyberpunk 2077, their futuristic open-world adventure. It’s currently slated for a November 19th, 2020 release date, but it has been delayed multiple times before. It will release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC with the option of a free console upgrade.
