Development of Medieval Dynasty continues on through its Test Branch Early Access build. The game saw relative success when it first released, although it’s still in a largely unfinished state.

Its newest update — out on April 16th — includes a bunch of new items, changes, and updates to the game. There’s some exciting stuff here, as well as some much-needed bug fixes. (No more exploding log piles, hopefully.) This small test branch update preempts a much larger update coming to the game soon, according to the developer’s Steam page.

7 New Resource Deposits

Perhaps reading the overwhelming success of Valheim as a reason to get some more crafting and ores in the game, Toplitz (the studio behind the game) have delivered.

There are four new resources to be found and mined: Copper, Tin, Iron, and Salt. These can be dug up and used around your medieval town, including crafting weapons and gear and eventually creating Bronze. They’re converted into Copper Ore, Tin Ore, and then Copper Bars, Tin Bars, Bronze Bars, and Iron Bars.

6 New Copper and Bronze Tools

To go with the brand new ore are a variety of new copper items to craft and use. These include the Hammer, Axe, Shovel, Hoe, Sickle, Knife, Arrow, Spear, and Bolt. They all have unique animations that will likely be improved as the game continues its development.

Likewise, you can now create Bronze at a Forge (more on that in a second) and create matching items, like the Hammer, Axe, Shovel, and Knife. Bronze tools have better durability and effectiveness than Copper.

5 Forge Added To The Game

The Forge lets you turn your Copper and Tin ore into Bronze, and will also have some functionality with Iron at some point (this isn’t clear in this update, and will likely arrive with the game’s next major update).

This works as a Workbench for your village and you can craft at it. There are some new animations, such as improved fire, that will make it look the part. Another small addition to working animations is in the Tavern: you might notice the NPCs are looking a little sharper.

4 Brand New Village: Tutki

Tutki is located in the northeast of the map, tucked in between Rolnica and Branica. It’s a small(ish) village that includes a Barn, Food Storage, a Woodshed, and a simple House. This is also the place where Rajmund lives.

With the new village comes a brand new mount in Medieval Dynasty: the Donkey. The Donkey can be purchased in Tutki, along with the various other things you could already purchase there, like grain and feed.

3 New Point of Interest Generation System

If you’ve ever thought the map of Medieval Dynasty was a bit bare, fret no more. This new system introduces quite a few more areas on the map of general interest, with a focus on more carts with items onboard.

After a few hours of playing through this update, it’s clear this has made a pretty big difference. There’s definitely more to see and explore than there was before. Hopefully, this is the first stage in creating a more vibrant, living world for the game.

2 A Bunch of Bug Fixes

Players will be happy to hear there’s a big list of bug fixes in this update. This includes simple but immersion-breaking stuff like levitating trees and NPCs sitting weirdly.

There is also a couple of nice quality-of-life changes: fish will now appear properly lighted up in inspection mode, horses will no longer strangely zip across the terrain to you, and there’s has been a couple of small fixes to the worker assignment for empty buildings.

1 Balance Changes To Make The Game Less Of A Grind

Lastly, a change that most players will be happy with: there have been some alterations to the required technology requirement for a variety of different activities. This should speed up your access to in-game technologies and certain buildings.

For example, the required technology for the Stable has been reduced from 5,000 all the way down to 2,000 (a huge change), the Apiary technology is down from 9,000 to 5,000, and many interactions will now offer more technology points.
