Telltale Games has finally shown how their take on Game of Thrones will look like by debuting their trailer earlier today, and fans were excited to get their first in-game glimpse of the action (aside of what we predicted was a legitimate screenshot leak earlier this week). The trailer placed a heavy emphasis on cast from the television show, who will lend their voices to the Telltale production through its six-episode arc.
Luckily, the developers also spread out a bunch of information about House Forrester, whom the plot focuses around in the upcoming Game of Thrones title, and we’ve helped compiled that information for you here.
House Forrester is already known to serve the House Glover in the North, and bend their knees to House Stark by proxy. The family rule from Ironwrath, a strong fort situated within the wolfswood and the main producer producer of ironwood, one of the sturdiest woods of Westeros. With the news of today, we now know that their history lies tangled with Southron blood and The War of Five Kings, and that members of the family are not only spread out around Westeros, but reach into Essos as well.
Without further ado, here’s House Forrester and the main cast of characters in service to them:
House Forrester was only mentioned once off-handedly in the Game of Thrones books, whilst House Branfield and the lowborn characters are completely new to the lore altogether. Their histories are intertwined with existing lore like the Battle of the Trident and The War of Five Kings, so it’ll be interesting to see if the game might actually impact something that gets a nod in the television show later on next year. As previously stated, events triggered by one family member may inadvertently affect another family member across all of Westeros, which implies some large-scale conflict and espionage is going to be a afoot.
The parallels between House Forrester and House Stark are noticeable, as both come from the North and have 4 sons (we’re counting Jon Snow here) and 2 daughters. They both feature a strong mother desperate to keep their family from harm (we know how well that went in the HBO show), a strong eldest son who was primed for leadership and proves himself on the battlefield, an eldest northern daughter who doesn’t blend in with the intrigue of King’s Landing, and a fourth-born son too young to understand what is going on. While the similarities are a little eyebrow-raising, we’ll leave it to the premiere episode for Telltale to prove they can craft an original story within the Game of Thrones universe.
Given that Telltale already revealed a portion of the game would take place in Essos, we’d stake good money that Asher will be one of the five playable characters. Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister and Margaery Tyrellare all confirmed characters in the game, so it’s likely Mira will be the playable character in Kings Landing who may have to find herself talking her way out of situations in the familiar timed-response Telltale style. There will be 5 playable characters total, but Telltale have kept their indentities secret - whoever they are, they’re on this list, and we look forward to the story unfolding.
The premiere episode of Game of Thrones, “Iron From Ice”, is set to launch during the holiday season this year.
What do you think of the explosion of details, Ranters? Do you have any theories about House Forrester?
