The Metal Gear Solid franchise is one of the most legendary gaming series. Its future is uncertain, but the almost 30 year run from 1987 to 2015 is a streak few other properties can match. Series creator Hideo Kojima has since moved on to new projects like 2019’s Death Stranding.
However, the memes fans post to the Internet prove Metal Gear still has a place deep in gamers’ hearts. The ten memes below all deal with Solid Snake and Big Boss, the two central characters in the series. While the latter is undeniably evil, these bits of comedy show him in a different light.
13 The Russian Army Should Have Brought A Few More Guys To Make It A Fair Fight
Metal Gear Solid 3 takes place in a soviet jungle where Naked Snake takes on a rogue part of the Russian army. While the odds are insurmountable, it is all in a day’s work for the Naked Snake, as shown by this meme from Nessnake. Several times Revolver Ocelot makes fun of Snake’s stances, but each time the protagonist makes Ocelot eat his words. The only people who really prove a challenge for Snake in MGS3 are the Boss and Colonel Volgin.

This meme from Pagan_Mint directly relates to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. The heavily foreshadowed twist reveals the playable character to be an MSF nurse who was transformed into Big Boss. This is actually who Solid Snake fights in the original Metal Gear. The meme takes this idea a step further, making Big Boss feel like Santa Claus. With enough faith, an eyepatch, and some rocking facial hair, you too can become Big Boss.
10 My Hunger Is Sated, But I’m Still A Monster
This joke is an obvious reference to those classic Snickers commercials. In some of the games hunger is a factor you have to contend with, with a famished Snake performing poorly.
The only difference is Big Boss is still a monster even when his belly is full. If anything, the lack of hunger will only make him more efficient. At least he takes good care of the soldiers under his command at Mother Base. They probably rarely go hungry.
9 Back To The Future
What would Big Boss from 1984 feel about Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake if he knew how the three would end up like this meme’s theoretical Back to the Future scenario? Would he be happy about it or would he do something to try and change their lives? Liquid and Solidus more or less follow in his footsteps, while Solid Snake does his own thing and even kills his own father. Needless to say, the family has some issues to work through.

Everyone knows those adorable videos of dogs talking to owners on the phone. This specific video was particularly heartwarming. No one thought, however, that Solid Snake was on the other line.
The protagonist has an affinity for dogs and worked with them for years during his retirement between Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear Solid. Considering his stealth expertise, one would think Snake would get along better with cats.
6 When You Have Played Too Much Metal Gear
Some people play so much Metal Gear, they start seeing aspects of the game in everyday life and even in other video games, like this meme from Chairman 12 shows. Anytime an NPC starts referring to you as “boss”, you immediately start thinking about Big Boss. Considering the franchise’s lull over the past five years, anything in gaming that reminds us of Metal Gear is a good thing. In Fallout 4 you can even make your character look like Big Boss with a little work.
5 Everyone Has Different Sides
Our lives on the Internet are divided into different sections, as this meme from LegendarySnakeV shows. The side we show in professional settings is drastically different than what we put on Tinder of Instagram. Sometimes two or more of these mix, but they generally stay separated. There is always potential awkwardness of someone familiar with your LinkedIn profile finding you on Tinder. Considering Big Boss’s line of work, we doubt he has much time for a dating App. He is kind of a business owner, so LinkedIn is logical.
4 The Wheels On The Cart Go Round And Round, Except For One
This one from instagram user _im_already_demon is admittedly only lightly connected to Metal Gear, but it is something to which we can all relate. Shopping carts are sometimes the bane of the shopping experience. Three of the wheels work like Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid or even 1987’s Metal Gear, while the fourth is like Old Snake crawling through the microwave hallway in Act 5 of Metal Gear Solid 4. Even those young wheels will be old and broken someday.
3 Because Video Games
Elisa and Ursula from Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - seemingly twin sisters who turn out to be the same person - received her powers from Nuclear fallout, while exposure to a nuclear test made Big Boss unable to have kids.
Please don’t expose yourself to nuclear radiation of any sort, because you certainly will not receive special powers. Becoming sterile is only one thing on a list of many symptoms you will receive.

Solid Snake was suffering from back pain more than a decade before Uncle from Red Dead Redemption 2 was using it as an excuse to not work. Old Snake does not know the meaning of excuses, however, and fights on despite his lower back paying a serious toll. The other thing to remember is that Uncle is an actual old man, while Old Snake is only in his early 40s. However, in the early 20th century people certainly aged faster, so maybe Uncle is only in his late 40s or early 50s too.
