A new CGI trailer has been released for Ovid Games’, Metamorphosis, an inspired narrative bug adventure based on the works of short-story writer and novelist Franz Kafka.

Published by All In! Games - known other titles such as Tools Up! and the upcoming cyberpunk game Ghostrunner - Metamorphosis puts players in the shoes of Gregor, who is a human who has been turned into a bug. Players will need to navigate the twisted and unfamiliar insect world to unravel the mystery behind Gregor’s transformation, overcoming obstacles that would otherwise seem ordinary and simple from a human’s perspective.

Judging from the trailer, it’s clear that the game may be a little darker in its tone than what other previous, more innocent insect-based games have portrayed, which makes sense considering the fantastic and realism-based themes of Kafka’s works. That said, there will likely be something for everyone in this first-person adventure, which features challenging environmental puzzles (including parkour), unique movement mechanics making use of Gregor’s sticky limbs, and eccentric characters in a hand-painted world (which looks incredibly detailed and slightly unnerving).

Metamorphosis is slated to release later this summer on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
