Metro Exodus is a post-apocalyptic video game, and, as such, there are many mutants and terrifying humans that roam the wasteland just waiting for their next victim. Some of these enemies are absolutely horrifying, mutated from creatures that were already somewhat scary before the bombs dropped, or they have abilities that can easily kill humans.
The following creatures are the most terrifying enemies that players will encounter while adventuring throughout the survival game world of Metro Exodus, and the developers did a wonderful job bringing these enemies to life and adding a feeling of dread while encountering each of them.
10 Wolves
Wolves may not seem like the most terrifying enemy in other games. However, within Metro Exodus, they can be very scary when attacking the player, especially while in packs.
Players will find that these mutated wolves will run straight at the player and attempt to take them down, which they will usually succeed at with little effort because of their swift movements and powerful bite.
9 Humanimal
The Humanimal is terrifying because it initially appears to be a form of a human. Yet, when players inspect it more closely, they will find a terrifying animal-like creature that can kill any trained soldier with ease.
The player will have to be very careful when dealing with this dangerous enemy because it has sporadic movement patterns and powerful attacks that will leave Artyom with no health at all. What makes the Humanimal even more terrifying, however, is its humanoid appearance combined with its animal-like qualities.
8 Electric Spiders
The Electric Spider enemies are found in the Sam’s Story DLC, and they are giant, mutated spiders that are capable of storing electricity within their bodies to zap at their enemies.
This electricity can be deadly for explorers, and Sam will have quite a tough time taking out many of these at once, which he will have to do within the expansion pack. These Electric Spiders are unlike any other creatures in the Metro franchise because of their electrifying abilities that make them terrifying!
7 Lurker
The Lurker is theorized to be a mutated version of either a tiny dog or some form of rodent. The fact that this is unclear is just one of the unsettling traits of the Lurker enemy.
Players will have to face this enemy throughout their Metro Exodus adventure, and they will run at the player with swift speed, attempting to bite and claw at their enemy. Players that are afraid of rodents already will hate having to face Lurkers, especially considering that they are such a common sight to see within the Russian wasteland.
6 Mutant Spider
The Mutant Spider has been present in every Metro game in the franchise, and it made its return within Metro Exodus to horrify players to no end. What makes Mutant Spiders so creepy is the fact that they’re huge, but also that they are not deterred by bullets and instead need light to kill them.
Although the Mutant Spiders are able to be defeated by attacking them with normal weapons, they will take much more damage than the average enemy before being defeated. The easiest way to defeat these creepy crawlers is to shine light at them and hope that they don’t run away for long enough to get shriveled up and die. Stay out of dark places to not encounter these creepy spiders!
5 Leeches
Leeches wouldn’t initially seem to be one of the scariest enemies within Metro Exodus, but the fact that there are large leeches that have been mutated to spit mucus at their enemies makes for one of the most terrifying enemies ever to be created in a post-apocalyptic video game.
If these leeches existed in real life, then they would surely be a death sentence, and there would be many people that had deathly fears of these squirmy life-forms. Within Metro Exodus, leeches are found within the Dead City, and they can deal a lot of damage by forming a mucus based attack and spitting it at the player.
4 Cannibals
Cannibals are a terrifying prospect in any type of survival game, but, in Metro Exodus, they are horrifying in full force because of the atmosphere that the game creates and the words that they scream at the player.
The cannibals that fans will initially encounter while at a fake military base are horrifying, and they will scream at the player phrases such as “MEAT!” while they run at Artyom trying to butcher him. Players should make sure that the cannibals can’t catch them, or they’ll be served for dinner!
3 Demon
Demons are present throughout the Metro franchise as mutated bat-like creatures that swoop humans up and kill them.
These flying creatures are some of the most terrifying enemies that players will encounter in any post-apocalyptic video game, and this is because of how swiftly the demons can move throughout the air. Whatever happens, never let a Demon swoop a person up because they will never be heard from again!
2 Mutated Bear
The mutated bear is only present throughout one chapter of Metro Exodus. Yet, it is still one of the scariest enemies that players will encounter in the entire game, and possibly the Metro franchise in general.
This mutated bear is both giant and powerful. It can use its claws to run straight through structures and charge at the enemy with the full force of its body weight. Artyom will have a lot of trouble when trying to defeat this giant bear, and it’s terrifying appearance only adds to its scary atmosphere.
1 Blind Ones
The Blind Ones were present in both Metro 2033 and Metro Exodus. These mutated creatures are a type of gorilla that has mutated and become blind. However, they can still detect their prey using their other senses.
It would be wise to steer clear of the Blind Ones if the player is able to, but, because they are present in one of the final missions in the game, players will have to encounter these enemies a few times within Metro Exodus before finishing the main story. The Blind Ones add a horror and stealth aspect to Metro Exodus that isn’t quite present in the rest of the game to its full effect.
