Aspiring pilots have something exciting to look forward to, as the latest developer update for Microsoft Flight Simulator is offering hope about its upcoming closed beta. While no firm date has been announced yet, the update from the Microsoft team says that a timeline will be provided in the next update on July 2.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently in the midst of its alpha testing, with Alpha 5 to start soon. The team has previously revealed a timeline for its testing plans, in which a mid-July was targeted for a closed beta. Development seems to be progressing as planned, but no update has confirmed that early timeline since.

The outlook for a nearing closed beta does look good, however, based upon this latest dev update. The team at Asobo Studio says that it is excited “for many of the deliverables we have planned for next month.” Alpha 5’s early July start date confirmed for the upcoming timeline, and while the closed beta date isn’t specifically referenced an update should at least be forthcoming.

While Microsoft Flight Simulator may not be as hotly anticipated by Xbox and PC gamers as, say, Halo Infinite, it still holds a special place for a specific niche. The flight simulator genre used to be much more robust. Even though the genre has faded somewhat, the team at Microsoft continues to create the industry standard for flight simulators.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is coming to PC and Xbox One.
