Lenovo boasts that its Legion Y44w-10 curved monitor delivers the ultimate gaming experience, yet at $1,199, it should also be expected to buy you dinner and tuck you in at night. Luckily, serious gamers can now take advantage of a 33% discount on the monitor being offered by Microsoft.
Featuring a 3840x1200 VA panel, 144Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync 2 support, a detachable Harmon Kardon speaker, and two USB-C ports, an HDMI, аnd а DisplаyPort connection – the Lenovo Legion Y44w-1 promises a truly immersive gaming experience.
With up to 11% more viewing area than a 32:9 monitor, the Legion Y44w-10 will take up a substantial amount of desk space. However, the slender 1800R curved screen and its honeycomb design on the back is an attractive draw.
Also, the V-stand offers some basic ergonomic functionality such as tilt, swivel, and lift, but considering the size of the monitor, gamers will probably not be looking to move the screen much. The stand also works as a base for the Harmon Kardon speaker, which can be connected via USB directly to the monitor. Reviewers have noted that the speakers lack bass and sound quality, but they can be easily replaced.
In addition, some reviewers felt that although the Y44w-10 wasn’t necessarily fast, it didn’t have any input lag, even with HDR enabled. On the plus side, the expanded field of vision did make it easier while gaming to read maps or spot enemies. Also, the 1800R curve on the monitor reduced the need to shift your head sideways by enhancing your peripheral vision.
The 33% discount at Microsoft, which should be in effect until the end of September, or while supplies last, does grant a competitive edge to the Legion Y44w-10. Similar monitors, such as the 49-inch Asus ROG Strix XG49VQ, which retails for $1,119.95, or the 43.3-inch Samsung C43J890, which lists for $899.99, may offer other advantages – but at $799, the Legion Y44w-10 can hardly be considered a bad investment.
