Activision and Infinity Ward are preparing to drop Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4, with one of the biggest selling points in its teaser released today being the addition of Captain Price. Each season of content to the first-person shooter title also adds plenty for fans to look forward to, like new maps, though Season 2’s headlining locale Rust continues to draw attention.
The fan-favorite map from 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been a great close-quarters combat addition to the modern title, and has even inspired art like an overhead, isometric recreation. However, Reddit user RaZeFX has discovered a visual glitch that allows players with lower graphical settings to see through an oil tank placed on the southeast corner of the map.
Given the intent of the map to facilitate tense shootouts with combatants around every corner, having a one-way window takes the wind out of players’ sails — even if the visual glitch is inaccessible for certain users, as one commenter points out their inability to see through the tank while using max settings on PC. Players are also unable to shoot through the tank despite being visually inside its geometry, which is good considering Call of Duty: Warzone previously had a glitch allowing users to shoot through walls.
Bugs and glitches are not uncommon in Modern Warfare and the numerous ongoing titles for the franchise. Modern Warfare and Warzone have been breeding grounds for issues throughout their lives thus far due to the constant updates being pushed by Infinity Ward, the most recent added a whopping 30 GB of data.
Because of Rust’s popularity, the map has been in circulation through multiple playlists since its release alongside another version put out in Call of Duty: Mobile. While it perhaps isn’t surprising to see a visual glitch like the one discovered by RaZeFX in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it would do the developers well to try and apply some kind of fix before it becomes a tactic which potentially ruins matches.
Given how often the developers have pushed out updates in Modern Warfare and Warzone, it’s possible that a fix on this issue could come sometime soon if it’s picked up. However, with rumors that there is development on a new Call of Duty set during the Cold War surfacing online this week, it’s hard to tell where the series’ priorities currently lie.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
