The Monster Hunter movie that was originally planned to be released on September 4th has been delayed significantly. Fans of the Capcom action role-playing game will have to wait until at least the Spring of 2021 for the movie adaptation of Monster Hunter.
An update to the Sony Pictures’ calendar has revealed that the new date for the Monster Hunter film will be April 23, 2021. While a direct reason has not yet been confirmed, it is likely that COVID-19 is to blame, as the Coronavirus has massively effected the world of video games and entertainment as a whole in 2020.
Detective Pikachu and the Sonic the Hedgehog films have started to change the narrative on video game movies, and there are many game to movie adaptations on the way. Monster Hunter looks to be an intriguing film, but fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out if it is successful. The year has been filled with delays of major movies such as Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, the live-action Mulan, and more.
Posters of the Monster Hunter film were released earlier this year, and the classic weapons and armor in the images prove that the movie is attempting to stick close to the source material, including the likes of Monster Hunter World (2018). By the time the Monster Hunter film is finally released, it may be time for a new Monster Hunter game as well.
The Monster Hunter film is set to release on April 23, 2021.
