There’s no doubt that Monster Hunter World had a solid launch year, as the latest entry in the long-running Capcom action-RPG franchise managed to move a lot of units and become one of the best selling video games of 2018. The Monster Hunter brand is so popular with gamers that there’s even going to be a movie based on the intellectual property, with the forthcoming film now having received an official theatrical release date for those anticipating the motion picture to look forward to.
According to Exhibitor Relations Co., Capcom and Constantin Film’s Monster Hunter movie is set to debut in theaters quite a ways off from now, with the project currently scheduled to come out on September 4, 2020. The film is being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and stars the likes of Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil, The Fifth Element), Tony Jaa (Ong Bak, Furious 7), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Pacific Rim).
For those who haven’t been keeping up with the Monster Hunter movie’s production cycle, it was initially revealed when Capcom producer Ryozo Tsujimoto stated during Tokyo Game Show 2016 that a live-action film adaptation was in development, with the project then starting production in September 2018. Since then, fans have been privy to various images of the forthcoming motion picture that were taken on-set, including one look at the Slinger weapon, but no actual footage has been released just yet.
All things considered, it looks like Monster Hunter fans excited for the live-action film version of the action-RPG will be waiting quite a while until the movie officially wraps up production and then finally hits the big screen, as there’s more than a year left to go before its theatrical debut. Thankfully, though, Capcom will have some content for Monster Hunter World that ought to tide fans over until then, with the game’s Iceborne expansion set to drop later this year.
The Monster Hunter movie is scheduled to release on September 4, 2020.
