Monster hunters exploring the New World are about to embark on an epic quest full of danger, a new game mode, and golden weapons! The Kulve Taroth is set to appear in Monster Hunter: World on April 18th, and it will bring with it a new quest type called Siege. This new type of hunt calls upon the skills of 16 hunters all at once, in what is sure to be a battle for the ages.

Kulve Taroth is an Elder Dragon just like Zorah Magdaros. Only unlike the Magdaros, players won’t be defeating it by shooting it with cannons and climbing onto its back. Instead, you’ll have to party up with 15 other players for a quest that will span four different battlefields. Those who succeed will find themselves rewarded with some rare and shiny new prizes.

Capcom says in the announcement post that the Kulve Taroth Siege is designed specifically for multiplayer. As such, players should be aiming to fill up their Gathering Hub with 15 of their most skilled friends. If you don’t have that many expert hunters on your friends list, you can join a dedicated Kulve Taroth lobby to pick up some random teammates. Once full, the team will be split up into four groups of four. But each team will be tracking and fighting the same Kulve Taroth, so every piece one team breaks off the beast will help the other teams in their battles.

Of course, hunters are mostly in it for one thing: the swag! So what does Kulve Taroth drop? Well, its mantle carries a score of weapon relics that can be turned into fancy golden weapons. The quality and types available are being kept a secret, and drop rates seem to be subject to chance. Naturally, a new armor set can also be made using Kulve Taroth materials. Like the weapons, the new armor is shiny, golden, and very much themed around horns.

After the relaxation and endless rewards of the Spring Festival, it’s nice to see an event that gets back to business. And best of all, Monster Hunter: World’s events are all free! What could have easily been paid DLC in other games is automatically being added to everybody’s quest list when it drops on the 18th. That gives hunters just a little bit of time to get grinding, upgrade their gear, and prepare for the fight of their lives.
