Magic: the Gathering is constantly evolving with brand new mechanics being added to the game every year. While the game contains many commonly occurring “keyword” abilities, there are countless mechanics that have appeared anywhere between once or a handful of times before vanishing into obscurity. There are numerous mechanics from yesteryear that still have a great deal of untapped potential, while there are also those mechanics that many players would prefer to forget....

Today, Square Enix hosted a livestreamed presentation called Square Enix Presents to reveal more information on several of the publisher’s intellectual properties. Throughout the 40-minute video, fans were treated to the announcement of a new Life is Strange game, a new mobile Hitman title, and a glimpse at what’s to come next for Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel’s Avengers. Coincidentally, this presentation premiered on the same date as the release of Marvel’s Avengers second post-launch story DLC, Operation: Hawkeye - Future Imperfect, as well as the game’s next-gen update, which features improved loading times, higher frame rate, 4K resolution, and many other general improvements....

WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier are very different shows, but one of the major distinctions between them is their complexity. You’d think that WandaVision, with its sci-fi sitcom tropes, magical realism, and Too Many Cooks inspiration, would be the complicated one, but instead it’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier that’s a harder sell for newcomers. Ending aside, WandaVision felt very much its own thing, able to exist and tell its story each week without needing to consider its place in the wider canon....

Announced during Geoff Keighley’s Game Fest today, Metal Slug Tactics will be a reinvention of the classic run-and-gun series for strategy fans. Created using the classic pixel art aesthetic and with a ton of returning villains, it looks like a love letter to longtime fans. Published by DotEmu with development being handled by Leikir Studio, the game has so far been announced for PC only. A Steam store page is currently active and gives us some more details on the title....

Metroid Dread was the biggest shock of E3 2021 for me. More than a decade after the game was first revealed, we’re finally getting a true Metroid sequel, and it’s coming this year. Metroid has always been my favorite Nintendo series, so I immediately jumped online to arrange my special edition pre-order. The sales data coming in this week indicates that a whole lot of you did the same thing. If Metroid Dread ends up selling as well as it seems like it will based on pre-orders, it will easily end up being the most successful Metroid game of all time....

Brazilian Counter-Strike organization Made in Brazil are rumored to be looking to sign Vito “kNgV-” Giuseppe to the roster, as per a report from Jarek “DeKay” Lewis. This signing would fill the vacancy left by Marcelo “coldzera” David after his departure following ESL One Cologne earlier this month. However, in accordance with roster lock rules, MIBR will not be allowed to field kNgV- at the StarLadder Berlin Major in August....

On the PR front, there’s no question that this is a better console launch for Xbox than the previous one. For whatever reason, the company just couldn’t read the room, and was mired in controversy and confusion from consumers. This was due to plans for the Xbox One to require a constant internet connection, and have an overly complicated way of playing second-hand games. Speaking on a podcast with IGN, Phil Spencer acknowledged this controversy and admitted the company made mistakes....

Minecraft has become a dominant force in the gaming world, and today Mojang Studios has introduced a new game mode called Minecraft Pac-Man. Pac-Man recently had his 40th anniversary, and he’s still chomping away. Minecraft players can unlock the DLC for 1340 minecoins, or about $7.80. The next generation is officially set to start in just two months with the launch of the Xbox Series X and Series S this November.
