The conceit of Lightyear, this year’s soft-boiled sci-fi animated film from Pixar, is that in 1995, Andy from Toy Story had a favorite film—and Lightyear is that film. The team that created the movie envisioned it as a classic sci-fi feature that had already been around for a while before Andy received his Buzz Lightyear toy. Director Angus MacLane even told reporters at an early release presser that he imagined by 1995, Lightyear and Buzz had already been through a number of retellings: from the initial film that was made in the late ‘70s or early ‘80s through video games and a cartoon series for younger viewers....

Alex Kurtzman says making 2017’s The Mummy was the worst decision of his career. “But alas, the critical and commercial failure of the Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy movie, starring Sofia Boutella as the eponymous sarcophagus-dweller and Russell Crowe as the Nick Fury-Esque Dr. Jekyll, killed the whole thing long before it could even become a disappointingly dull cinematic universe like the other high-profile attempt to do the Avengers thing. Now, Mummy director Alex Kurtzman—who was also one of the architects of the Dark Universe itself—is speaking out about the film, telling the podcast Bingeworthy (via The Hollywood Reporter), ‘[The Mummy] was probably the biggest failure of my life, both personally and professionally....

Serena walks her audience through the Seattle of the past, an old market with cobblestone streets buried after a great fire....

Marvel’s Avengers was treated to a patch today, but not one fans of the game expected. Developer Crystal Dynamics recently outlined some next-gen features for Marvel’s Avengers on Ps5 and Xbox Series X, and players were expecting some more good news with a patch update. However, shortly after the announcement of Patch 1.4.3, fans took to Twitter to express their frustration with the small patch and ask why some of the more pressing gameplay and DLC issues in Marvel’s Avengers were not addressed instead....

It’s not a collaboration many would have seen coming, but the people at Maxim have been longtime fans of Epic Games’ Gears of War franchise. The titular men’s magazine announced today that they’ve collaborated with the Gears developer to bring a single map to Xbox Live, as well as the return of Execution Mode. The best part about this Gears of War: Judgment DLC is that it’ll be completely free - saving those VIP Season Passes for later deals....

Capcom reveals that the first six games in the Mega Man franchise will be released for iOS and Android devices, with a release date set for January 2017. When it comes to Capcom franchises that should be revived, Mega Man sits near the top of the list. One of the classic platformers of the NES era, the Blue Bomber has certainly seen better days, with new releases for the character not in sight....

Mega Man Legends has always been an oddity amongst the wider Mega Man franchise. For a series predominantly known for offering 2D side-scroller platforming gameplay, moving it into a 3D action-adventure setting was quite unexpected. It’s been doomed to obscurity ever since but if a recent leak is correct, Mega Man Legends is coming back via Steam. Leaked via a SteamDB listing, the news arrives in a similar fashion to Persona 4 Golden’s leaked PC announcement last year, and Capcom seems to have been working on this for some time....

Konami reveals that Metal Gear Solid 5 shipped 5 million units within a month of its launch, and that the company’s revenue is up by over $50 million. Metal Gear Solid 5: A Phantom Pain is one highly-talked about game. Likely to be the last ever Metal Gear Solid title from Hideo Kojima (Kojima left the game’s publisher Konami/opted to take an extended vacation after a rocky few months), it reviewed incredibly well and it was recently revealed that the game had raked in $179 million in global sales within 24 hours of being released....
