Loop Hero took Steam by storm this week. The gritty roguelike attracted 150,000 players in the first 24 hours; that’s 150,000 people sucked into its addictive swirl of looping around and around until time becomes meaningless. You can’t stop playing. This is Loop Hero, where every action the player takes has a knock-on effect they might not see coming until it’s too late. This is a complicated game, and once the initial pleasing shock of the hard-hitting soundtrack and detailed pixel art style wear off, more and more of Loop Hero’s intricacies become apparent....

The multi-billion-dollar gaming industry, while still successful as a whole, has not been without casualties. Empires rise and fall, and with each generation of console hardware many companies struggle to stay in the loop. Taking a chance on creating new console options for gamers may seem outrageous now, but the plug-and-play micro console market opened up by the Ouya and Nvidia Shield is beginning to find its footing - albeit slowly....

Super Bowl Sunday is right around the corner, as Tom Brady the Tampa Bay Buccaneers get ready to challenge the Kansas City Chiefs, with superstar Patrick Mahomes looking to bury the Madden curse for good. Every year before the Super Bowl, Electronic Arts runs simulation matches for the big game using Madden 21 to try and predict who will take home the Lombardi trophy. Last year, Madden 20 – which featured Mahomes as the game’s cover athlete – correctly predicted the Chiefs beating the San Francisco 49ers 35 to 31, which wasn’t that far off from the real 31-20 score....

“1996… I’ll never forget it.” It was the year video game publisher Capcom released Resident Evil (or Biohazard in Japan) on the original PlayStation, setting the stage for a burgeoning genre named as soon as its opening cutscene concluded: “Enter the Survival Horror.” Like a lot of games in its generation, Resident Evil based much of its production values on the film medium - specifically ground-zero zombie filmmaker George A. Romero’s work - and in the 24 years since, the franchise has kept its cinematic influence near and dear....

It may be hard to believe, but Week 20 of Marvel’s Avengers is already here. The game has released one additional playable character so far and players are still waiting for more concrete details on the release dates of the Cloning Labs, Clint’s Hawkeye, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. The upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game gives players a chance to step into the shoes of all of their favorite heroes, though it also is adding some new heroes into the mix. Case in point: the recently-revealed Cerise, a member of the Inhumans who, as you may have noticed, uses a wheelchair to get around. Now, a superhero who uses a wheelchair isn’t exactly breaking new ground in the Marvel universe – Professor Charles Xavier has been a major player in comics, cartoons and movies ever since the first issue of X-Men was released all the way back in 1963....

In celebration of the second anniversary of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Plush Art Club is releasing a special, limited print variant in collaboration with Grey Matter Art and artist Chun Lo. The print is sure to be a hot item and will be limited to only 100 hand-numbered pieces. The print itself looks outstanding, featuring Spider-Man in a battle-damage Anti-Ock suit with the regular costume visible beneath the extensive damage. The print measures 18” x 24” and will feature nine colors with metallic inks....

The initial Mass Effect trilogy — an action-adventure RPG series from Bioware — took place in the Milky Way. Gamers couldn’t leave the galaxy, but there was plenty to keep them busy at home, anyway. Galactic politics are no cake-walk, and the long, sordid in-game history of the Milky Way is worrisome at best. The sentient races who have achieved space travel are divided into those who have aligned with the Citadel Council, the center of galactic government run by the Asari, Turians, and Salarians, and those who have not....

Since moving to a bi-weekly update schedule, pilots have had to become more patient for additional content and bug fixes in MechWarrior Online but the payoffs so far have been worth the wait. Every two weeks we see a new mech and new features and this first April update is no different. A brand new, gigantic 90-ton hero mech is now purchasable in-game (requires real-money bought MC points), alternative vision modes (night & thermal) have been redesigned, and a variety of air strikes have been added....

A leaked announcement captured by Reddit confirms that pre-orders for Microsoft Hololens augmented reality development kits are scheduled to go live today and cost $3,000. So far, 2016 is poised to be the year that introduces virtual reality to a mainstream audience with devices like the Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, and HTC Vive all competing for consumer attention. With Oculus hitting the market first thanks to pre-orders going live over two months ago, Microsoft has started the process of getting its Hololens augmented reality technology in the hands of developers....

It has almost been a year since Pokemon Sword and Shield hit the market. As details began to surface about the games, Pokemon fans began to lash out. Martin “Rekkles” Larsson has officially joined G2 Esports’ League of Legends side, the European organization announced today. Rekkles joins G2 after five years with domestic rivals Fnatic, taking over the AD carry position from Luka “Perkz” Perković, who left the squad earlier this month. There is currently no word on who Fnatic will sign in Rekkles’ place. Fnatic announced Rekkles’ departure earlier this week, stating the 24-year-old had “made the decision to move on....
